Final Conan show

I've been looking for a clip of Conan's farewell comments from the end of his final "Late Night" show last night. Anyone know if one is online or if he said anything noteworthy? I read that he said something along the lines of "Just because we're moving to 11:30 doesn't mean I have to grow up"

Also, what does NBC plan to air next week during the 12:30 am ET time slot? My TV listings still list Conan, so if that's indeed true, I wonder if they will pull out some older episodes to air like they did during the writers' strike.

Yeah he did say that he will never grow up and some great times are ahead when they get to California. So in my opinion that will be good for the show. Andy Richter also dropped by to look at some old clips. "The White Stripes" were the musical guests. Conan's farewell comments lasted for about 10 minutes. He mostly thanked the writers. He also thanked both Leno and Letterman. The show ended with Conan going into the audience to shake everyones hand. Everybody also got a chunk of wood that Conan destroyed from the set.

He got a tad emotional (voice breaking) at the very end of thanking just about everyone in the universe. He thanked his parents (who were apparently there last night) as well as his brother.

Also, his executive producer; Max Weinberg and the entire band (he mentioned each one by name); the writers; the entire staff; Lorne Michaels, who picked Conan from obscurity on the SNL writing staff; various NBC executives including Bob Wright, Jeff Zucker, and someone else I can't recall; David Letterman who started Late Night; and Jay Leno.

He released Abe Vigoda from his cage and set him free. John Mayer sent a video clip wishing Conan well but saying LA will eat him alive. And, as mentioned, Andy Richter came by.

Anyone know if Max and the band are going to LA with Conan?

When Letterman signed off "Late Night" to move to CBS, NBC reran the first week (and maybe even the first two weeks?) of Letterman "Late Night" shows from 1983. Perhaps they'll do the same for Conan...

The show also ran over by 8 minutes from it's normal end time (ended at 1:42 AM ET), so those with a DVR probably got the last few minutes cut off.

The band apparently will be headed to LA to join Conan on The Tonight Show, per Conan from earlier in the week. No word if Joel Goddard will be joining them.

Will Ferrell, playing former President Bush, also made a surprise appearence. He dressed down to his "leprecahun" outfit.

I caught most of the show, including the end. Conan ended his Late Night stint brilliantly, I think.

The crowd really ate up his comment about "not growing up", and I agree with their sentiments. O'Brien has thrived with his brand of humor for far longer than anyone believed, and dramatically changing it would be a mistake. The Tonight Show is Conan's baby now--the 11:30 ET Leno fans can get their math teacher yuk-yuks 90 minutes earlier.

I watched it and was moved at the end.

The guy can talk about how his show wasn't that great; but for 16 years it was one of the greatest.

I'm glad he reached out and showed respect to Jay Leno (His Lead-In), and the guy he replaced David Letterman.

Of course he would thank his writers, without them, there is no Late Night.

His speech moved me like it did for people who saw Johnny Carson gave his last speech; that is until Leno tops him 3 months into the future.

I believe that Conan will struggle at first though because he will have to adjust on not being so raunchy at the 11:30pm timeslot, but will find his way.

To me, he's this generation's Jack Paar.

It was great to see him acknowledge both Letterman and Leno - class move.

He may find the earlier time slot difficult at first, but he'll adjust. He's a quick study and will make the necessary adjustments.

I remember when he first started, and it was a bit rough. His schtick at the time was self-deprecating humor, but when the show's theme is playing and the "Applause" button is lit, and the crowd is pumped up, launching into self-deprecating humor just sucked all the energy out of the room, so that by the time the monologue was over, there was none left. It didn't take him long to get out of that and learn to play off the crowd.

Hopefully, he'll fare better in his new time slot than Letterman did.

My favorite part of that "Old Timey Baseball" bit is the girl whose "husband was off fighting". She's ethereal and so committed to the bit it plays well with Conan's off-the-cuff responses and he was so taken with her commitment, he utilized her for most of the rest of that piece.

As for myself, there are many, many moments of "Late Night with Conan O'Brien" I could cite as my favorites; hell, even his moments during the writers strike were funny.

I loved Conan bitching about how Houston didn't air his show until 2:30AM, The Interrupter, the European guy in the audience, Frankenstein Wastes A Minute Of Our Time, Cactus Chef Who Plays "We Didn't Start The Fire" On A Flute, Gorilla Nurse Exercising On An Old-Timey Abdominal Exercise Machine While Listening To Juice Newton's "Angel of the Morning", whenever Conan's "priests" would visit, followed by Jesus, causing Conan to scream, "Jesus Christ!", Brian Stack's racist crooner, Artie Kendall

My all-time favorite would have to be Hannigan, Brian Stack's door-to-door joke salesman.

And who could forget America's favorite singing trio, the Slipnutz, or their trip to a Slipknot concert where they were booed off the stage?

"We're the Slipnutz, clowning around and slipping on nuts.
We're the Slipnutz, look he fell down."

"I slipped on some nuts."

Edd Hall to be announcer for The Tonight Show Starring Conan O"Brien?

Yeah... that would be good for Edd. Do you think he learned from his mistake of leaving The Tonight Show the first time? I sure would hate to see him screw up his career again. Kind of silly to leave such a great gig for a bunch of nothing. Andy Richter did the same thing. It's a big risk to take and often times it doesn't pay off.

other great skits/moments...
when he was doing the show from Chicago & Mr. T showed him around & the Masturbating Bear parachuted in to be on the show...
"Conando"-the episode with the snake...
"The Year 2000"
a trip to his neighborhood bar
If Celebrities Mated
when he put audience members in the best seat in the house
...and one of my favorites...the skit guy with the "fun hole" Speedos in the audience :D :D :D :D :D :D

Letterman signed off in the summertime and Conan took over in September. I believe NBC ran the first two+ weeks of Letterman from 1982 (when he only did shows M-Th) for 2 weeks before Conan took over. I am fairly certain they started this on the same day Letterman started his new Late Show on CBS, so diehard Letterman fans could watch 2 hours of Dave.

When discussing best memories from Conan, lets not forget that loveable pooch they discovered at the Westminster Dog Show, Triumph the Insult Comic Dog! The "press conference" he held to address the pets.com sock puppet is one of my favorite memories from the show.

I'm not sure what episodes will air this week, but the producers of "The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson" made a mistake by taking a week-long break from new episodes the first week that he doesn't have fresh Conan as competition. It would have been a good way to take away the rest of O'Brien's audience that he hasn't chipped away at over the past few years.

I just have a feeling that Jimmy Fallon is going to fall far behind Ferguson in that time slot, and may never catch on, just like another Jimmy (Kimmel) who has been struggling for years to find an audience.

I'm sure he's a great guy and all, but would someone explain what it is Edd Hall does, other than announce the opening? I want that gig!

It's a week of Conan repeats. Tonight's is from sometime last year. Conan just referenced the third presidential debate and Joe the Plumber.

It was introduced by Jimmy Fallon who was very obviously reading off cuecards. He won't last.

Let's give Fallon a break for awhile. Did you watch Conan the first couple of months? He was clever, but he had a lot of peculiar and unattractive habits that showed on air. I would assume that he reviewed his tapes every day with his producer and a couple of "trainers" to break himself of those habits.

Of course, Fallon has been in front of a camera for a long time, unlike Conan when he started out.

There's just no predicting who will be good in the talk show format, and who will fail. I would have thought Chevy Chase with his glib personality would have been a natural, but his show was a train wreck.
