Nashville’s "Party" is back
After several days of stunting, including running music as “Frank FM” with All Frank Sinatra music, then all Led Zeppelin, to all Garth Brooks, and most recently all-TV tunes, Montgomery Broadcasting’s WVNS, the former “V102.5”, flips to “The Party” as Rhythmic top 40. The station had a previous incarnation as "the Party" prior to its run as AC "Venus" and "V103". The station also picks up new call letters, WPRT. According to the new website, the station PD is Troy Hanson, and syndicated morning man Kidd Kraddick will start soon, along with the rest of the on air staff. The first songs played on the new "Party" included John Sebastian's "Welcome Back," Nelly Furtado's "Party People", Pink Floyd's "Get the Party Started", Justin Timberlake's "SexyBack", Katy Perry's "I Kissed A Girl" and 50 Cent's "In Da Club." The Radio-Info.com boards are already weighing in: Discuss It
"V-103"? Since Cromwell already owns the Buzz at 102.9, a name like "V-103" would be unnecessarily confusing for a station at dial position 102.5, especially with the same ownership! ???
John Sebastian's "Welcome Back" was not the first song played under the new top 40 format. It was the last of the TV theme songs they played this morning. I don't think a 33-year-old song would fly on a current top 40 format! I dug it on top 40 radio when I was 12, but that was in 1976!
And Pink Floyd's "Let's Get the Party Started"? That's just comical, it's so humorous! ;D
