FIRED EX-PROGRAM DIRECTOR OF KLDE-FM, RON PARKER ON WCBS-FM

Some of us have already commented on this in another thread, but once again I will say I wish Ron well. He's a good jock and I know of no one who is more passionate about radio than he is.

Its hard for some to understand, but even though Ron was the one who had to give me my walking papers at KLDE after 12 years there, (I was a budget cut) I really came to appreciate him when i came back to the station as a part timer.

Kevinc

I miss hearing him and Jackie in the morning. I think he's a perfect match for the newly re-fitted WCBS.

are you the "Real" John Steele? If so, where have you been? Should I bail out of radio completely?

Real John Steele, When did you retire and from where? Where do you know Parker from? Do you know Paul Christy too? Wish I could have been in your generation of jocks. At least I was smart enough to sign up with Parker and work with some of the classic guys for a while. Best move I ever made.

Meanwhile the "Caesars" are fiddling while radio burns, and I'd better learn how to sell insurance.

I had the pleasure of working with the Real John Steele (not to be confused with the Reel Don Steele) at KLDE several years ago.

You gotta love a guy who can go on the air live as a jock and rip open a transmitter or console at the same time while wearing his engineer's hat.

What are you up to these days John?

Kevinc

WOW, that is a very nice think to say KEVINC.
I am still in the business in some ways, I am working as the assistant chief engineer at KUHF FM at the University of Houston, and also doing quite a bit of voice work in the form of imageing and commercial work for stations scattered all over.
It was great working with Kevinc at KLDE, we had a lot of fun.

its time w (your name) I love all of your comments, you are on target with "Caesars are fiddiling while radio burns"
and YES I have worked with Paul Christy a very long time ago in Kansas City, he has used more air names than anyone I can think of. Ron Parker realy deserves a lot better than what happened to him at KLDE.

By the way, I got an email from Parker this week saying that he had only been in NYC as a fill-in, doing a favor. He says he is not in the running for the gig and it wasn't an audition.

Should I believe him???????????? hmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

Well I got email from him on Wednesday of this week saying he's doing 7 PM until Midnight Monday through Thursday and one weekend shift on WCBS-FM starting on or around this coming Monday September 10th. I worked with Ron in Athens, Ga briefly. I'm really happy for Ron. I'm sure he'll do well!

Good for Parker! I have to wonder will he be keeping his house here in Houston or will he be calling NY home?

What does everyone think about his CBS-FM, N. Y. tryout?

Radio Truth, in my opinion it was not appropriate to title this thread "FIRED EX-..." Sooner or later everyone finds themselves let go. If you haven't been fired yet, you aren't really in radio or either you haven't been in it very long. Or perhaps you have some sort of vendetta against Ron and thought you'd take a little revenge. Maybe he fired you?

At any rate, it is a good thing Ron left KLDE or he might have missed out on the CBS-FM gig. So it worked out good for him. Not so good for you, since you aren't going to CBS-FM!

How would you feel is your "contract wasn't renewed," then you got a plum gig and some bitter little person posted a thread titled "FIRED" about you? What goes around comes around. Especially in radio. Always remember that.

As I understand it, Ron does plan on keeping his house here in Houston (actually...closer to Cypress). Congratulations Ron!

Parker's a peach. We used to work together in Lufkin. We'd grab a beer and a movie after work sometimes. He had a dog named Bootie with 3 legs. Bootie would smell bad sometimes when she was left out in the rain.

well said. Ron Parker fired me, and we're still good friends. Two of my three references on my resume are guys who fired me, and both are exactly who I want talking me up to potential employers.

Maybe he didnt mean it that way, Vassar. I'll give benefit of doubt.
