Fired?

Just heard that WCOS has fired Glenn Garrett after almost 30 years. Heard it from inside the building, so I'm pretty sure. Solid, loyal guy. Great pipes. Wish him the best!

If Glenn still wants to be in radio that is one of the biggest opportunities that double O has had to really get another marquee name added to their line up... I would slap him on 94.3 in a heart beat... Remember great gold Sunday nights that Glenn did "LIVE" with real call in request back in the 90's... I met Glenn a few times at the state fair and he is a very genuine nice guy... Good luck where ever he may wind up if that is the case... Clear Channel's loss will be Double O's gain... CC1

Y'all are DEAD ON! Glen's one of the nicest, patient (and, truth be told, one of the better adjusted) guys in radio. I remember being a college freshman at USC in early 1980 working at WCOS-AM for Hunter Herring when the AM was "Position 14 WCOS". Glen worked 7p-midnight at WCOS-FM...right across the hall. Ken "Music" Martin was their PD, Toby was there perfecting Aunt Elouise Louise, Teri Oyer(sp) middays and I think Chuck Finley had recently started afternoons. By far, Glen and Teri were the friendliest, nicest people (in a plethora of nice staff members) in the entire building. Glen really helped me with my on air delivery and, especially, interacting with listeners out in public. We used to have such a blast at the Skyline club when Alabama and Sylvia would come to town. People in and around the Columbia area now just don't have a clue as to how big a POWERHOUSE the Great 98 was, not only in the area, but in country music radio...period. Glen was a major contributor to that reputation.

It's probably a moot point, but surely CC has him under lock and key with a non-compete.

Scott when I was a kid waiting to go back to school on Sunday's while waiting for the bus I remember listening to Glenn every Sunday afternoon... Back then living in the redneck vestige of NE Kershaw CO it was WCOS or WSOC... For the Kiddies it was either WPUB back in its top 40 days or WNOK if you could pick them up at the time... Glenn was WCOS PERIOD... He was the friend you could turn to when ever there was bad weather, wanting to know what happened in NASCAR, the list could just go on and on... It is just to bad that Clear Channel has blinders on when it comes to good air talent, but wait we are talking about Clear Channel here where being loyal does not mean a thing no matter how much blood sweat and tears you give a company... I am sure that they will put some lifeless VT'er on to match the rest of what was once the great 98... I am sure somebody will come on and preach that it is a money making reason, but Glenn could adapt to the changing climate of country music and he did it flawlessly!!! Once again Clear Channels loss if played right can and should be Double O's gain... Time for me to get off my soap box :). CC1

Yeah Carroll, their blinders have always been on. You're talking about the company that forced Rick freaking Dees out at KIIS-FM when his show was still top or near the top biller in every demo that means anything in LA. Sad, really.

I remember meeting Glenn at an autograph party for Reb McEntyre and George Strait in 1984 and he was one of the nicest people I have ever met in the broadcasting business. I certainly hope that Doublee O will pick him up and maybe they could replace Roper in the mornings with him or really get him to liven up 94.3 because his classic gold shows were great and he is definitely the consumate professional.
