Speaking purely as an occasional listener to their show - Diane always had a bad habit of stepping all over Ray, while he was in mid thought. Very distracting for the listener. I would find myself reaching for the scan button many times. She would even interrupt people that she interviewed on the show with "yeahs, uh-huhs", etc. Not necessary...

BTW - Isn't it true that CBS was also providing her with local accomodations during the week? $$$$$
Not sure about what CBS was providing her? But CBS radio of Hartford is ringing in the new year with pink slips and who knows what is down the road over there. If I were in management over there I would be shopping my resume' around ASAP! ::) ::) ::) ::)

I hope it doesn't end up becoming another WELI.
That would be a CT radio tragedy. ELI will never be the same. From the early 50's to late 80's when they were a locally owned full service AC station serving New Haven county. Now they air syndication because it's cost effective for Cheap Channel. The only thing local is the guy who gives the sports scores and weather related closings. Very sad!

i was asked last year, to listen to several on-air tapes. I was searching for an afternoon host in a top 5 market.
one of the tapes was Colin. Bright, certainly, but my opinion, which I passed onto the station g.m. was definitive.
Talks in circles and never rally takes the audience anywhere. Very typical of liberal hosts. Bright, well-read but deathly afraid of any conflict.
the few libs who will tear into someone, do get numbers.
I am by no means a conservative. I get paid to hire people, who create ratings.
There is a Colin in every market. Sharp guy, but limited as a radio talent. Needs guidance virtually every segment.
In this economy, who has that time.
To all you Colins, may I suggest something. Quit being *******. Take a stand. Defend it.
Ratings will follow. Quit worrying about being 'smart' among your friends.
There are a ton of left winger radio talk show hosts out there. The Mike Malloy's, Ed Schultz's, Al Franken's, Stephanie Miller's, Rachel Maddow's etc, etc, etc, All trying to carve their own left wing nitch. What separates them is content.

Same with conservative talk radio. Rush Limbaugh was the pioneer and now you Michael Savage, Laura Ingraham, Glenn Beck on and on. GB found his nitch with the conservative base. Now he's on FNC at 5p starting in Jan making BIG BUCKEROONS! Not bad for a once upon a time dj.

Sad... if what you say is true, you're looking for another opinionated argumentative gasbag. I'm happily not your target audience.

If you get paid to hire people for radio these days, I might suggest an alternate source of income. Colin would probably be the first to admit he's not a consultant's or headhunter's dream, but were Colin's ratings the real problem? Legendary local stations with perfectly good ratings are seeing big layoffs because these corporations are ill-prepared to cope with any economic downturn. There are other forces at work, but this hastens the situation big time.

That didn't take long. Diane Smith is back today at WTIC hosting for Ray.

It's true. I guess the Ray Man had to go home for a family funeral so she was filling in for him.

The good news however was that no "Chet Chat" was heard. :D
