FIRST LISTEN: SEATTLE'S Q104.5

I agree with everyone who says the few people should stop complaining. Every time this station comes up it generates at least a couple pages of comments. As someone who listened to KBSG back in the 90s, I honestly was quite angry when 97.3 flipped to talk. Then a few weeks later KMCQ appears with a similar playlist. Then they get the new transmitter, the crappy audio processor, then go really deep. There are only about 6 songs that I wish KMCQ would still play, and I can easily get those on my IPod if I wanted them, which I might eventually, but for now I need to update my collection of today's hits, because I will probably want to hear what KMCQ plays 30 years from now when today's hits become oldies, now there is something that is going to make me feel old!

Jay Kelly is a good guy and a good programmer. He kept KJR-FM successful for a long time. That can be a tough thing to do in a Clear Channel environment where the local PD often has less power than the local marketing director.

I don't think KMCQ sounds particularly bad musically. Yes, I really liked the pre-Kelly days. It was fun hearing surprises and they were fun surprises. It could be said that KMCQ was good in spite of itself.

We are now left to wait for the other shoe to drop with this facility. By now most of us are finding other ways to scratch the oldies itch anyhow.

I still think KMCQ can do well if they can supplement their current format with either Art Laboe or Barry Scott (Lost 45s). At least add back in some form, what the current format took away. Keeping AT40 was a start though.

....but don't play "Kokomo".....

Okay, I have a complaint...

It's clear they run the "Maltshop Memories" on the 45s but they advertise songs they didn't even play in any previous form of KMCQ's existence. "Why Do Fools Fall In Love" and "Sixteen Candles" are heard in the background plug from time to time yet I've never heard any station other than KIXI play it.

And wayyyyyyy too much Mellencamp. They've obviously pushed the limit with the 80s by going into Bon Jovi records but I don't mind that much anymore. Hell, even some of the 80s songs they play aren't on KJR.

NOTHING says "Maltshop Memories" and a ginchy sock-hoppin' fun time with the oldies like BON JOVI....

23 Skiddoo Daddy-O!

(Sometimes I just can't smack my head hard enough listening to 104.5 MHz whenever I'm down there these days. I just can't......)
