Flip at 100.3 Imminent!!

Letting Knoxville friends know It appears The Ed Bob Show is doing its final show today, Flip at 100.3 appears to be imminent. BTW just reading about the Winter numbers a 13.3 is still impressive, the question is where did the listeners go? Doesnt appear they went to Q, theryre way down too and Merle same situation. With a 2.6 for WCYQ (Down 1.1 from last book)

As a former broadcaster there isnt a snowball chance in hell I would put Q with those numbers on the WNOX 100.3 signal, Would be safer to put Classic Hits on especially given the frequency history.

For the record it you go back and look IVK's numbers for the past few years they are always down in the winter book!

Rock leaning classic hits was tried on 100.3 several years ago under the Eagle moniker and flopped. I think country would be a smart move. Journal has Mike Hammond and he's already had tons of exclusive label and artist promotions on Q93 through his connections. He has the resources to really challenge 'IVK with a comparable signal. Also the idea of heritage, even with country listeners, isn't what it used to be. Especially given today's younger, poppier, lean in the country format. My only question is when they move Q to 100.3, will they keep their edgy, younger country sound or add more gold to the mix to be more mainstream. I'm hoping they keep the young leaning, CHR type approach.

The Q's numbers are primarily what they are because of one issue, the signal it is on. Country Music is still a growth industry. But the Q signal is a marginal one. The ratings on 100.3 with some format tweaks will likely improve a good deal. The Q formatics are liked well as a rule with some changes. I could see the Eagle format being viable as a 93.1 option.

Confirmed...listening to a show on 100.3 this morning at 7.15 am (Christian Questions) and the host mentioned that next Sunday this show would be on AM 850. Not sure if he knew he officially let cat out of the bag.

I respectfully disagree with the numbers assessment. Q's sister station Hot 104.5 has a much weaker signal, but popped up to #3 in the market in this last book. The widely used shares are metro, and country on 100.3 is going to be of more help in the TSA. Journal is savvy enough to know that an attempt to bring down WIVK will take years and a lot of money and patience.

Good thing Journal isn't starving. A financially better move would have been to put on an adult female oriented format that indexes better with upper income listeners and start carving into that nice fat cash cow over at South Central.

RadioInsight is reporting the flip is imminent. They have a story saying Journal has applied for and been given permission to simulcast Q93 and 100.3 for a two week period beginning around May 2nd.
So looks like they'll gradually move Q's listeners over and then debut the rumored classic hits format on 93.1 in a couple of weeks. My guess is it'll be kind of modeled after Journal's classic hits format they are doing in their Boise cluster (KTHI "107.1 K-Hits, Superhits of the 70's and 80's" www.khits.fm). Even the K-Hits name would work well in Knoxville.

I just hope it's a pop based classic hits format and not another classic rock based one like The Eagle was.

I totally agree. 94.1 WKQK in Memphis has 60's 70's and 80's pop based format and it's a winner in my opinion. If they'll do it right, they can have a great playlist without sounding redundant. The Memphis station carries Tom Kent's syndicated show and it's very good. We had Tom's show on the air here back when 95.7 was oldies.

According to Radio Insight on May2 WCYQ 93.1 will Simulcast on 100.3 for 2 weeks then stay on 100.3 while 93.1 will switch.

I still wonder why JP did not go country when he got 100.3 back?

I agree. Talk was a really dumb move. The talk format was starting on a downswing at the time, plus it's an expensive format if you're going to do it well, (which JP didn't do). The station sounded like a cheaply ran afterthought. He'd have been much better off to have went country or even CHR, AC, or classic hits.

Any announcement on Q93 yet? I haven't heard any promos or teasers about it yet. (although I haven't gotten to listen this afternoon).

Also, 100.3 is still in mono as of now. I'm surprised they haven't turned the stereo back on and already been messing with processing.

With no word or teaser about it yet on Q93, I'm wondering if it might not be a day or two before they start simulcasting. Maybe a loop of some sort on 100.3 till they get the sound processing adjusted. Also, does anyone know if they've upgraded 100.3 to HD capabilities? I know it was mentioned as part of the sale that Journal made requests of transmitter improvements of Pirkle.

Ok, it's the 1st, and the talk format is running promos about moving to 850 (& already simulcasting there), but still nothing from Journal or Q93 about the move. Talk about dragging your feet!

I know it. You'd think that moving from a tiny class A signal to a booming class C would be something you'd promote the heck out of!

Also, WKVL's webpage is still blank. This whole process seems so haphazardly done.
