I actually like the loud, CHR type processing. Much better than 'IVK, who for the last few years has sounded really low and with all the big pounding beats processed down. I always thought IVK's sound processing sounded like a soft AC, listen at work type station from 20 years ago. Lol! Come on, country's a young format now and people like to crank it loud. So yeah, I'll take that compression and hyper processing. To me it makes it "pop", and sound brighter. Just my personal preference though.
And flipping back and forth, I like 100.3 's louder processing more than the way they have 93.1's set up.
But like I say, that's just my preference. I grew up on those loud, heavily processed CHR's of the 80's. I remember back then in the late 80s and early 90's some stations even used processing that sounded like they used a delay for a slight reverb effect on the music. I specifically remember hearing that type of processing on several stations in TX on trips back then. (not talking about reverb on the mic, but in the whole audio chain). I guess it would annoy some people, but I thought it sounded amazing. Almost like a concert hall echo type effect that was really "punchy" and loud.
