FM Frequency of the Week - 101.1 MHz

What can you get on 101.1 FM?

Here in Vermilion, OH it is usually WRIF/Detroit with a varying signal. Once in a while I'll get WHOT/Youngstown, OH

This is a good frequency for me, in Baldwin Co., AL, to see which way the tropo is blowing, since it's dead for a hundred-plus miles.

If anything, it's WYOO Springfield (Panama City), FL with talk, or sometimes it's country 101.1 WNOE New Orleans.

From Gaffney, SC - WROQ Rock 101 with a good to fair signal.

During tropo I have gotten WLVH from Savannah, GA over WROQ,
and also during tropo sometimes I get bleed over Rock 101 from WWDM 101.3 out of Columbia, SC.

In Bellingham, WA, it's CFMI, Vancouver.

101.1 Portland can be heard regularly as far north as Federal Way, WA (between Seattle and Tacoma.)

In Spokane, it's KEYF, licensed to Cheney, But a full coverage Spokane classic hits/oldies station.

Between Seattle and Spokane in Leavenworth, WA is KOHO, a AAA station with a pretty spotty hit-or-miss 930 watt signal. Before 2000, they were KLVH with an Easy Listening format. I had to mention that because in the previous post, there was mentioned a WLVH in Savannah, GA. Also on 101.1....

KOHO used to be a strongly independent station with a heavy emphasis on independent folk and rock, some jazz and even a classical show Sunday mornings.

But they moved in a more commercial AAA direction within a few years....

Springfield, IL: Since summer 2011, an unnecessary (IMO) translator first for WYMG-100.5 (Chatham, IL/Springfield) and now for heritage CHR WDBR-103.7 (COL Springfield). IMO it would actually be better off as a religious translator or an AM simulcast than for stations that can be already heard clearly in the heart of the Springfield market.

Before that time, a mix of either WXOS East St. Louis or WHPI Glasford, IL/Peoria.

In southeast FL, 101.1 has a Caribbean-style pirate; but there is also WAVV in Naples Park if the antenna points due west, and under stronger tropo, WJRR Cocoa Beach/Orlando.

cd

In Bellevue, WA I usually get nothing, sometimes CFMI New Westminster, BC (Classic Rock 101) or KXL Portland, OR (News/Talk) in Tropo.

Other catches on this frequency include
KVLC Hatch, NM (Classic Hits)
KDBN Parachute, CO (repeats KKNN 95.1 Grand Junction. 200 WATTS-lowest powered Es signal I've ever received, 6/22/11)
KOSI Denver, CO (AC)
KRTH Los Angeles, CA (Classic Hits)
KWYE Fresno, CA (Hot AC/Adult Top 40)

In Yakima, WA I sometimes get KEYF Spokane in Tropo. That's 150 miles.

In Pacific Beach, WA IIRC it was sometimes KXL, sometimes CFMI. Go south about 25 miles toward Raymond and you start to get KSWW 102.1's Raymond xlator. (K266BL)

Of course Portland is KXL...

I heard the WAVV signal is spectacular down there. And the Radio-Locator map seems to indicate it too.

Meh. A car radio at my QTH, even when the pirate is off, won't produce a killer signal. At home, I get it nicely w/ outdoor antenna; still, the pirate or WJRR might pop up for a second.

In Coldwater, MI it's my local translator W266AE rebroadcasting WFRN 104.7 out of Elkhart, IN.

During intense enhancement, I can still hear WRIF (Rock) from Detroit or whatever Chicago is this week.

I've also managed..
WIXX- Green Bay, WI
WQON- Roscommon, MI
WLZQ- South Whitley, IN
WIZF- Erlanger, KY
KXOF- East Saint Louis, IL
WWCD- Grove City, OH
KXIA- Marshalltown, IA

in NW Indiana I get WIQI Chicago. For some reason though, this one seems to not be as clear as 100.3 or 101.9 (this is especially true in Chicago when I drive along Lake Shore Drive, when I get a lot of static, even in NW Indiana).

This is not a local station ( DX )

V101.1 KHYL serving the Sacramento, Stockton, Modesto market

36,000 watts.

119 miles from my listening spot. ( good signal )

I didn't answer in 2012 so I will now. East Tennessee: There have been some changes. Currently in Knoxville it's WIAN-LP, a religious station. Drive a little west and it's WYSH's translator. Sevierville area has been WJFS-LP, a Church of Christ station. I've received WSGS, Hazard KY here at times, as well as in Ohio.
