Local Class C KAFE Bellingham WA is all that I will ever get on 104.1.
Until 2010, this station was on 104.3. It swapped frequencies with CHHR Vancouver on that date, to help facilitate a new station at 104.5 in the Seattle market. Part of a complicated 4 station frequncy swap. I cannot find the picture, but the two morning shows met at the US/Canada border (Peace Arch Park, for you locals) and exchanged a giant 3 for a giant 1. It was cute, and a great way to generate a little press to help listeners remeber the move.
KAFE just celebrated their 30th anniversary as an AC station. It's so old that it was originally called the "Soft Rock Kafe" back when both the term "Soft Rock" and the term "Hard Rock Cafe" were used often. LOL. Now it just goes by "Kafe 104.1." Still pronounced like Cafe. Also now somewhat directional to protect 104.3 Vancouver, but only a bit. 60kW, 701M HAAT. Surrounded by miles of salt water. The signal gets out!
Nice view for the CE when he services KAFE/KISM/Praise 106.5 and KVOS-TV. COL Bellingham is on the left edge of this image. Quite alert volcano Mt. Baker in the distance. This is looking east. I live behind the second set of rolling hills on the right edge of this shot.
BTW, you can visit this location, or at least nearby, by paved road pretty much year around. It is on Orcas Island, in the San Juan Islands, and the tower is on state land as part of Moran State Park. The trick is getting out to San Juan Island- during the summer the ferries are by reservation only and there is quite the wait list. This time of year it is easy to get there, but good luck seeing anything in gthe gloom of winter!
