FM Frequency of the Week 2018-19: 100.7

Up the dial one to 100.7. What’s that frequency like (or what was it like before the onslaught of 80-90s, translators and LPFMs?).

In East Tennessee, it’s currently a fight between W264CJ (WKXV-900) and WBGQ, Bulls Gap TN, serving the Lakeway area between Knoxville and the Tri-Cities.

Retro/other: Dayton, Ohio: Always WEEC, Springfield, OH, a long-time Christian station going back as far as I can remember. During remnants of Hurricane Ike, which blew 75 mph winds through Southwestern Ohio and took out most of the power grid (some customers were without power for over 2 weeks), WEEC was one of the unlucky ones that spend a few days off the air. That gave southwest Ohio DXers, including me, a rare chance to hear WMMS, Cleveland. I also managed to snag WCYO, Irvine KY briefly during the storm (though I’m not sure how).

Lafayette IN---Either WMGI, Terre Haute or WBYT, Elkhart IN.

Retro DX Clip of the week: KATM, Pueblo, CO with E-Skip reception in 1987.

Here Bob Hawkins’ collection here: http://46124.info/FM/

Orange County, TX 100.7 has been one of my "hotter" frequencies with KKHT in Winnie, TX being the main station. During skip conditions it could be KZBL-Natchitoches, LA, WTGE-Baton Rouge, LA, KASE-Austin, TX, KWRD-Highland Village (Dallas), or KPXI-Overton, TX.

In the near north Chicago suburbs it's WKKV Racine, Wi with a pretty good signal. Years ago when the calls were WRKR I used to listen from time to time.

Far northwest suburbs of Chicago...

WKKV here as well. Good signal as well.

Back when it was WRKR, the station where I was working challenged them of a Sunday afternoon softball game. The site was a bar just off what's now I-43 that had multiple diamonds, along with voleyball, tennis, horseshoes, and all sorts of other outdoor recreation stuff. Let's just say the free beer flowed freely and I hit a double. No more needs to be said.

Newark, NJ area. Semi-Local WHUD Peekskill,NY at around 38 miles. Tropo brings in WZXL Wildwood, NJ (most often) , WLEV from Allentown, PA and on rare occasions WZLX from Boston, MA

Mason City, IA:
Depending on the day, it can be KJYL in Eagle Grove (a repeater of Kinship Radio, a Minnesota-based Christian network), KKRQ in Iowa City, or WBIZ-FM in Eau Claire.

Central KS:
Decent signal from KHOK/Hoisington (Great Bend area).

Around Columbus, Ohio, it's always WEEC with a very solid signal (better in the western suburbs, of course, but still very listenable out east where I am). It is powerful enough to stop the scan in many areas and has been ever since I can remember.

Warminster PA(Philly 'burbs):

Usually, it's semi-local WLEV from Allentown PA. Tropo situations would give us WZXL from
the Jersey Shore, WHUD from Peekskill NY or WZLX from Boston.

Yakima WA

Weak signal from KHSS Athena OR (Catholic) and some KARY 100.9 splatter. Once in a great while I'll get a fadeup of KKWF Seattle (Country), and a little more often, KMGX Bend (Hot AC). And actually, thanks for uploading this thread. I've never counted KHSS in the master logbook, so I am off by one station. Unbelievable it took 5+ years to realize that...

Es logs include
CFJL Winnipeg MB (Soft AC, now 100.5 and different format)
K264BA Portales NM (// KFLQ Family Life Radio, 250W)
KSLX Scottsdale AZ (Classic Rock)
KFMB-FM San Diego (Adult Hits, now Classic Rock)
KLVF Las Vegas NM (Adult Contemporary - 2019 no webstream and partial details of their programs on the KFUN-1230 website. Really? In this day and age?)
KHAY Ventura CA (Country)
KHOK Hoisington KS (Country)

Of course anything else in Es range is wanted.
