FM Frequency of the Week 2018-19: 95.5

Continuing with our look at the Class B/C frequencies:

What do or did you receive on 95.5?

East Tennessee: (Knoxville/Sevierville): 95.5 is one of the clearer frequencies. I’ll often get one of these 3 stations: WSM-FM, Nashville; WQHY, Prestonsburg, KY; or WSBB, Doraville, GA (the WSB simulcast. That will likely be less common after the tower move).

DX from East TN: Same date in 2012 by ESkip, KNDY, and KAAM, Bethany, MO. One of the rare tropo events in East TN brought WAEV, Savannah, GA.

Retro/other: Dayton, OH, usually WHOK (now WXMG) sneaking between WZLR and WCLR (now WHIO-FM). Lafayette, In in the 90s, WFMS, Indianapolis and sometimes what was WNUA, Chicago.

DX clip of the week: A 2 minute aircheck of Jim Channell (Captain Whammo) on WDHF, Chicago. http://46124.info/FM/Illinois/IL Chicago 95.5 1974 WDHF.mp3

Well, aren't we coming up with some of my best frequencies here, aren't we?

Yakima, WA - Usually nothing, but KBFF Portland OR (Top 40) often fades in for a few minutes at a time throughout the day.
This is an E-skip and meteor scatter goldmine. I think there's more logs on this channel than the even-more open 95.1. Here we goooooo....

KWNR Las Vegas (Country) - both Es and Ms
KYOT Phoenix (Adult Hits)
KPHT Rocky Ford CO (Classic Hits) Probably the most common sporadic-E log on 95.5, heard at least 2-3 times a year.
KWYY Casper WY (Country)
KLAQ El Paso TX (Rock)
KLOS Los Angeles (Rock) Another common one, heard on both Es/Ms
KVOB Lindsborg KS (Rock)
KAAN Bethany MO (Country)
KGLI Sioux City IA (Adult Contemporary)
KAIQ Wolfforth TX (Regional Mexican)
KAHE Dodge City KS (Classic Hits)
KRVG Glenwood Springs CO (Adult Hits)
KCHK New Prague MN (Variety)
KKHK Carmel CA (Adult Hits)
KKZY Bemidji MN (Adult Contemporary)
KCHH Worden MT (News/Talk) - Ms log, never heard on Es, at 550 or so miles
CHLB Lethbridge AB (Country) - Ms log
KWEY Weatherford OK (Country)
KWEN Tulsa OK (Country) - Farthest log on this channel at about 1450 miles.

While I've heard just about everything in Es range, I still would love to catch KSDZ Gordon NE (locally-based country format) and KYNU Jamestown ND (also country). The latter has escaped me multiple times on Es openings that way and hasn't been IDed yet.

Orange County, TX Mostly KAFX Diboll, TX or KRRQ Lafayette, LA. Occasionally KKMJ Austin, TX will come to the top when conditions are right.

For me, its WSBB. I think they're located on the cell tower over by the Doraville City Hall. Its the highest point for miles and overlooks I-285 (the Circle of Death).

Here in Bremerton, WA, 95.5 in Portland (Currently KBFF) came in commonly during light-to-medium tropo before 95.7 KJR-FM's HD radio feed came online. Now only the most sensitive receivers during strong tropo can receive the station here.

The Valley of the Jolly Green Giant (LeSueur, MN)

KCHK 95.5 New Prague (K-Czech)
I've spoken of it before. Its a mix of talk/country/sports/polkas

They are very unique programming. M-F local (except where noted)
5-9 "morning show" with classic country/polkas/50s/60s hits
9-11:25 is classic country
11:25-noon is trading post (think craigslist for old people)
noon-1 news
1-3 polkas
3-6 "dance party" (50s/60s)
6p-5a classic country (satellite fed...)

Fridays they do "Live musician Fridays" where they bring in a polka/old tyme band to play. They go from 6:50-9:30ish. Theyve been doing it for 4+ years now (almost 250 weeks)

Saturday is a sports show from 9:15-10 then usually satellite fed country
Sunday is polkas from 6am-9pm except for 4 church services in the morning then the satellite fed country

Warminster PA(Philly 'burbs):

Usually splatter from local 95.7 WBEN-FM(Ben-FM, mostly 80's music). Sometimes either
WPLJ New York or WPGC in DC will pop up here.

I have local WGFE Glen Arbor, MI on 95.5 with an Active Rock format.

I have managed to get around it a few times and get:
KRRQ Lafayette, LA (Urban Contemporary; only Es on this frequency)
WEBG Chicago, IL (Country)
WIFC Wausau, WI (CHR)
