FM Frequency of the Week 2018-19: 96.9

We're covering the traditional Class B/C frequencies in the commercial band. Let's check out 96.9. What do you or did you get there?

East Tennessee: Only WXBQ, Bristol, VA.

Retro/other:

Dayton, Ohio area: Usually WYDA (Air 1..formerly K-Love), Troy, Ohio. (this was also Classic Soul WRNB, which my voice was heard on).
Lexington, KY is still a frequent vistor (currently WGKS) especially in the southern part of the market. K-Love had 3 translators throughout Springfield, OH at one time. Often, when band conditions were just right, they'd find themselves relaying Lexington instead of Troy's 96.9.

Lafayette, IN in the late 80s/early 90s: Sometimes WLBH, Matoon, IL would make it there when it was an actual radio station.

DX recording of the week: WLBH, Matoon, IL in 1968 as received in Muncie, IN http://46124.info/FM/Illinois/IL Mattoon 96.9 1968 WLBH.mp3

Yakima WA

Local KZTA Naches (Regional Mexican), unnullable at about 10 miles.
KYYO McCleary (Country) was heard a few years ago about 25 miles away from home at a campsite around 5000 feet elevation. Still Yakima County.
CJAX Vancouver (Jack FM) was logged a couple years ago on a night where KZTA was off the air.

KCCY Pueblo, KMXP Phoenix and KWAV Monterey were all caught on Es openings when I lived near Seattle.

Northwest Chicago suburban fringe....96,9 is WWDV, Zion, IL. IIRC the stick is actually across the state line in Wisconsin. Whatever, the signal here is good. Stronger than parent WDRV, Chicago 97.1)

Baldwin County Alabama on the Gulf Coast. Nothing local, so this is a good freq. for checking enhanced conditions. 99% of the time, if I hear something, it's "The Legend" WDJR out of Dothan with their classic country format.

It's such a dominant signal despite being over 120 miles away that I only have a few logged DX catches, both from Louisiana: KCIL Gray (200 miles, country) and KZMZ Alexandria (289 miles, rock).

96.9 here is probably our strongest local, WIWF, with a classic hits format. It was formerly country until December last year. Charleston 96.9 has 100kw and can be heard almost anywhere east of I-95 in SC with a good radio.

charlestondxman, I'm heading your way next week. What should I be listening for?

Here in the Valley of the Jolly Green Giant (Le Sueur, MN) its a blank space....mainly because its sandwiched between 2 "local" frequencies
KDOG 96.7 North Mankato and KTCZ 97.1 Minneapolis

The closest 96.9 is KIAQ Clarion/Ft Dodge...maybe that can peak through

Warminster PA(Philly 'burbs):

WFPG from A.C. most of the time. Tropo sometimes brings us either WLAN from Lancaster PA or WTKK from Boston.
