FM Frequency of The Week: 92.3

What have you guys gotten on 92.3?

For me, it's:

Seattle: nothing but IBOC/splatter from KQMV 92.5

Yakima: KULE Ephrata, WA (country)

P.S: We might be going back to Yakima AGAIN between Thursday and next Sunday. If so, we're taking a rental car, possibly a Nissan.

Baltimore's hip hop/R&B WERQ about 60 miles away.

To me, it has been a fairly active DX frequency. I've logged what used to WCKW LaPlace, LA (near New Orleans) now WRKN,
KEZO Omaha, NE, WCMQ Miami, all Eskip.

Tropo, it's WQSL Jacksonville, NC 340 miles away, WTYD Deltaville, VA 135 miles away (a class A station).

Warminster, PA:

Picked up K-Rock(WXRK) from NYC on occasions. Mostly, though, it's splatter from 92.1(WVLT
Vineland) and 92.5(WXTU Philly).

Another fairly productive channel here in Poughkeepsie, NY. Dominant is WXRK-New York City, "Now FM", solid 24/7. often in HD. Right now (a rainy Sunday evening) the HD is in with drop-outs, with K-Rock on HD-2 and WFAN-AM on HD-3.

On other frequencies that are doubled up between New York City and the Albany area (91.5, 95.5, 99.5), the Albany area station is totally receivable by aiming the antenna North. However, on 92.3, while WFLY Troy, NY is heard occasionally, it is quite difficult to hear them and I don't know why.

DX on 92.3:

WLWI - Montgomery, AL
KSAR - Cherokee Village, AR
KIPR - Pine Bluff, AR Power 92
WCMQ - Hialeah, FL Classica 92.3 - most distant on 92.3 at 1162 miles.
WWKA - Orlando, FL K-92
WSGA - Hinesville, GA The Point
KKHQ - Oelwein, IA Q-92.3
WERQ - Baltimore, MD 92Q-Jams
KXRA - Alexandria, MN KX-92
WIL - St. Louis, MO
KTTN - Trenton, MO
KEZO - Omaha, NE Z-92
CBAF-5 Halifax, NS CBC - French
CBCT-2 Elmira, PEI CBC - English
WPRO - Providence, RI
WYNU - Milan, TN

Pretty productive frequency here.

Under normal conditions, depending on antenna aiming I get WYNU (Rock 92) Milan/Jackson TN or WIL St. Louis.

Tropo DX:
WLWI Montgomery, AL
KIPR Pine Bluff/Little Rock, AR
WTTS Bloomington/Indianapolis, IN
WYGE London, KY
WDEF-FM Chattanooga

Es DX:
KKFR Glendale/Phoenix, AZ
XHTRR Torreon, Coahuila
KJYE Grand Junction, CO
WCMQ Hialeah/Miami, FL
WCKW Laplace/New Orleans, LA
WMME Augusta, ME
WJPD Ishpeming/Marquette, MI
KXRA Alexandria, MN
KKRY Miles City, MT
CFRK-FM Fredericton, NB
WZPR Nags Head, NC
KRST Albuquerque, NM
CJET-FM Smiths Falls, ON
XHCAQ Cancun, Quintana Roo
WPRO-FM Providence, RI
KQRQ-FM Rapid City, SD
KOFX El Paso, TX
KIIZ Killeen, TX
KNFM Midland, TX
WRLS Hayward, WI

I live 12 miles from a full powered 10kw erp, but 37kw at 1000 some odd feet. so I have never heard anything other than wtts on this freq.

Here in SE Wisconsin, I don't have anything local on the frequency.

WPWX Hammond, IN "Power 92" is frequently heard...Sometimes strong enough for HD reception. That's only 82 miles, though.

For tropo:
KEZO Omaha, NE...Rock "Z-92" 399 miles
KTTN Trenton, MO...Country "Classic Country 92" 316 miles
WBNZ Frankfort, MI...Soft AC "The Right Mix" 181 miles
WIL St. Louis, MO...Country "92-3 WIL" 301 miles

Es brought me:
KETX Livingston, TX...Classic Rock "The Eagle" 893 miles
KJYE Grand Junction, CO...AC "Colorado 92-3" 1085 miles
WWKA Orlando, FL...Country "K-92" 1054 miles

KGON. In fact, I live just downhill of KGON's Camas/EaVan gap filler, so it comes in nice and strong at the flat.

I meant to say 100kw not 10kw, but anyway,, that and a few other frq are impossible to DX on.. 102.3, and 103.7, and 97.1 being the others here in martinsville Indiana, just south of Indy

KOND 92.1 from (Clovis) Fresno blocks 92.3 in Clovis , but if I drive on highway 168 for about 20 miles towards Shaver Lake in the Sierras I get KSJO from San Jose.

Coldwater, MI-

92.3 is a fairly open frequency. It was the home of WZUU until they moved to 92.5 in January of 2007. On the same day, Battle Creek's WSAE translator moved from 92.5 to 92.3, which is what I always hear with the antenna pointed north.

I also hear-
WMXD- Detroit, MI- Urban AC
WKRK- Cleveland Heights, OH- Rock- sometimes fades up above WMXD w/ antenna pointed east
WCOL- Columbus, OH- Country
WFWI- Fort Wayne, IN- Classic Rock- The main station I hear. Not very strong, but my antenna certainly picks them up!
WTTS- Bloomington, IN- AAA- Fades up over WFWI during strong tropo.
WPWX- Hammond, IN- Hip-Hop- Heard with the antenna pointed west.
WBNZ- Beulah, MI- AC

I've also heard WIL from Saint Louis on a couple of occasions.

I've heard Es from El Paso, TX, Grand Junction, CO and even Nova Scotia and New Brunswick on 92.3. It's a very fruitful frequency.

I'm currently trying for a recent sign-on from Owen Sound, ON. If I can get the antenna bearing NE and not have Battle Creek or Detroit interfering, I might have a shot.

Pennsauken, NJ

It is usually adjacent channel interference/ IBOC hash from local 92.5 WXTU. Sometimes I pick up deep fringe reception of New York and Baltimore's 92.3

Vermilion, OH: Mostly WKRK/Cleveland, OH here which was an alternative and now a sports station '92.3 the Fan'. Doesn't take much tropo for WMXD/Detroit to interfere or even take over the frequency. I've also heard WCOL/Columbus, OH during unusual strong tropo from the south a couple of times.

Schenectady, NY - WFLY, a heritage Top 40 station known as "FLY 92.3" :) However, when it was off for transmitter maintenance a few summers back, I managed to get WXRK NYC and WERQ Baltimore on the frequency

This is a difficult frequency for me in Baldwin County. On one side there's our great AAA "92 ZEW" WZEW at 92.1 with a transmitter site across Mobile Bay and on 92.5 is the 250 watt translator for WHEP 1310 in Foley, whose tower I'm practically under. So, from home, I don't get anything unless tropo or skip is really acting up.

When it does, WLWI Montgomery is there, and/or WRKN New Orleans.

WPWX Hammond, IN is the strongest 50kw horizontal/44kw vertical station in my immediate area around Gary, IN. I get nothing else on that frequency. Since they're broadcasting in HD, it makes it difficult to get anything on 91.9, 92.1, 92.5, & 92.7, due to the buzzsaws. I have to be at least 20 miles away from their tower to be able to hear anything on 2nd adjacent frequencies.
