FM Frequency of The Week: 95.1

What do you guys get on 95.1?

For me, I've gotten (all via Es)
KATC Colorado Springs, CO (Cat Country)
KCGY Laramie, WY (Y-95 country)
KBVB Barnesville, MN (country)

When I was in Yakima, WA April '10 I got Tr scatter from KLTW 95.1 Prineville, OR and nothing else. It's creamed between two semi-locals (KIOK 94.9 and KXLE 95.3) but a lot of Yakima logs were Line of Sight/Knife-edge because of the mountains.

If I'm driving through Vacaville, CA (halfway between San Francisco and Sacramento), I can receive both KMXI from Chico, CA and KHOP from Modesto, CA. Both stations come in simultaneously in that area. In Pleasant Hill, CA I only get KHOP and the signal is pretty robust around there because of the topography.

In Pleasant Hill I really only get KHOP, once when I was near the DVC Libary it came in and locked in HD.Occationally I can Hear KMXI under it.

Most of the time it's IBAC noise from KNRK (94.7), as well as sidebands from KNRK and KXL (95.5). Occasionally if I manage to get far enough away from the KNRK stick, I can sometimes pull in what sounds like some religious translator "going along for the ride" in all the KXL sideband crap.

(Of course, moving far enough away from the KNRK hash is going to be tough, now that I am living just barely outside the Vancouver eastern city line [KNRK's stick is in the Camas hills; I think it's the one next to the water tower, if I remember right. Much closer to me now than it was when I was still living in Cascade Park.]

On the other hand, since I am living at a much higher elevation than before, the satellite reception thus far has proven way better here!)

Dayton OH..mostly WAJI Ft Wayne, often WXIL out of Parkersburg WV, or the Mt. Gilead OH station. Once got WGGC in Bowling Green KY, which I've gotten in the Knoxville area

I normally get Baltimore's contemporary Christian WRBS 95.1 "Shine FM" with my home just inside the fringe reception. One tropo reception I got WRNS Kinston, NC about 280 miles away.

On the central Oregon coast I heard only semilocal KSND 95.1 Monmouth, OR (60 miles SW of Portland) with Spanish music, in 2007. In Sutherlin, OR I usually get nothing, except for a short reception of KLTW Prineville, OR on the opposite side of the Cascades--probably by airplane scatter.

I once heard KICT Wichita, KS during E skip in VA, that was several years ago.

95.1 is an I-Blocker here.

When I travel to the FL Keys with my Sony XDR-F1HD & outdoor antenna, 95.1 is THE emptiest spot there could be.

In the rare cases that Tropo in the Keys comes, WAPE's the one; sometimes WBVD along the Space Coast.....I heard Spanish on 95.1 in 2006 from the Keys, and it turned out that I was hearing "La Mega" which is WEGM in Puerto Rico. What was most amazing was, this had to have been Tropo because (a) it was in well for 20 straight minutes or so, and (2) nothing was E-skip-like on the low VHF TV channels. On top of that, it was at around 2 pm (!!) on a Sunday.

I get KHOP 95.1 from Oakdale/Modesto/ Stockton at times. I used to receive it all of the time before KBOS 94.9 added the HD IBOC.

One of my old radios would never pick it up, it would just skip from KYLD to KUIC. Now it comes in great on my Insignia Portable HD, sometimes I listen to it for fun.

Here in Poughkeepsie, NY, 95.1 is dominated by semi-local WRKI-Brookfield, CT. However, they are not as strong as you would expect from a Class B at 30 miles, and 95.1 is actually a pretty good DX frequency. Also, during the summer, WAYV Atlantic City, NJ is very often heard here over WRKI.

DX on 95.1 since 2003 includes:

WXFX Prattville, AL "The Fox"
KAMS Mammoth Springs, AR "K-Country"
WBVD Melbourne, FL "The Beat"
WUEZ Carterville, IL
WDZQ Decatur, IL "95-Q"
CHVN Winnipeg, Manitoba
WXTK West Yarmouth, MA
WRVI/WBVB Barnesville, MN "Bob-95-FM"
WYYW/WJDQ Marion, MS "95-Q"
WFXF Honeoye Falls, NY "95.1 The Fox"
KQCV Shawnee, OK "Bott Radio Network"
WZZO Bethlehem, PA "Z-95" This one quite frequently heard.
WCDZ Dresden, TN "Oldies 95.1"
KYKR Beaumont, TX "Kicker 95.1" -- most distant on 95.1 at 1380 miles.
KEWL New Boston, TX "Cool 95.1"
WJAN/WVTQ Sunderland, VT "VPR"

I get "K-Frog 95.1" from the IE here in LA. Not really a great signal, but its pretty decent if you're in the car.

95.1 is one of the only OK frequencies for Es in the LA area. It's a heaven of FM there.

Unfortunately, here in Lake Geneva, WI, Kenosha's WIIL (50KW @ 29 miles) is the dominant on 95.1.

Since I moved here in 2008, I've only had a scant tropo catches with them in the way. Just:

WLST Marinette, WI 176 miles
WVLI Kankakee, IL 111 miles

I'm waiting for Es strong enough to bring anything over that station.

This week's frequency of the week - 95.1 MHz

In Vermilion, OH I mostly get CKUE/Chatham, ON with rock with a varying signal. During tropo openings to the south, I've heard WVXG/Mt. Gilead with satellite-fed classic rock. I've also caught WWGY/Grove City, PA in tropo from that area as Froggy country

Like in Reply #6 back in 2010, I get WRBS in Baltimore in northern VA as usual, but forgot to add, weak WIKZ Chambersburg, PA as well when I null out WRBS. The 2 stations are quite close to each other at about 75 miles apart.

Still nothing in Seattle. Have caught KCGY-WY, KBVB-MN, KATC-CO and KHOP-CA via E-skip here. I may have gotten KORQ Abilene, TX one time (but there was no ID even though the song matched, KATC roared back in) which would have been a double hop, but I have not confirmed and it is not in the log.

Portland, OR - weak KSND Monmouth, OR (Spanish). Have not gotten KITI Centralia down there, I think it's too far.

Yakima, WA - Picked up KLTW Prineville one time before they went to 95.7.

WIIL- Union Grove, WI- Rock- 95 WIIL Rock
WVLI- Kankakee, IL- Oldies- The Valley
