Footy Back Full Time?

Rumors around that Footy is coming back fulltime.

Glenn Beck is out at WIOD and Footy is in...9a-12n M-F.

other rumor has him doing mornings at WINZ...

Any insight...anyone?

Beck out at WIOD? I don't know if that would go well with Premiere the way they've required WIOD to carry three more hours of their programming in the day hours as a consequence of being a Rush affiliate, going back to when they carried Dr. Laura.

It would be great to hear someone live in the market outside of a.m. drive.
Perhaps a replacement for that monotonous, "Bush is always right" and "The Democrats are always wrong" Sean "Bush" Hannity.

I know Joyce Hauptman is live, 2-4 p.m., but that great show is hardly on during drive time.

If WIOD dropped Hannity, WFTL would pick him up in a heartbeat.

Dont get me wrong. I like Footie, but I think his Saturday WIOD show sucks. He's just not a talk guy and they are trying to make him one.

Anyone notice that Defede hasnt been on the last few mornings again on WINZ? Is he sick again, or is he out? (I hope he's okay. Last time it was fluid around his heart.) Maybe they'll put Footie there. Much less to lose.

Glenn Beck will be done at the end of the month. Footy begins a M-F 9a-12n show on October 1st.

Good to hear- that local programming will finally return to the former "heritage" station.

But I wish Hannity was the one getting the boot, like a tape delay back to 9pm-Midnight.

Beck's show is a breath of fresh air in a conservative cacaphony (I'm not liberal, BTW).

Beck isn't a big blowhard like Sean and Rush. Beck's show (like Savage's) isn't only politics and he doesn't always whine about the liberals. It's more conversational. It's not in any way as monotonous as Sean "Bush" Hannity's.

Sean is too defensive and too ofen points fingers.

Nancy Pelosi isn't the greatest threat to the civilized world, as Sean insists.

I'm going to take a total guess here, but I bet they put Footie on 940 now that Defede is gone. The reason? He's been in morning drive forever in the market and, with the type of show he does, he would not compete with WIOD in any way, shape or form. Nicole would likely stay on as the sidekick and keep her producer and promotion duties, too.

He is NOT going to be on 940. Its a done deal, he will be on WIOD. Its unfortunate he will be on the air at all. He is terrible doing a talk show. There's a reason he was a sidekick for 96 years, but he will bring $$$ to the stations. That is the ONLY reason he should ever be on the air.

It makes sense that Beck is/ could be getting the boot at WIOD. Ken Charles, when he was at CC Houston, booted Glenn out of the 950 KPRC midday slot for local shows about 2 years ago.

He announced it this AM...

That's great news, though as I stated earlier, I would prefer Hannity getting the boot (or tape delayed even later), as Beck's show at least offers intelligent discussion and isn't a mouthpiece for a particular White House.

Is Footy even a conservative?

Is that a requirement? Would you have asked the same question ( "Is he a liberal? " ) of another incoming host during the late 1980s when most of talk radio was moderate to liberal?

On the vast majority of American talk stations, being a conservative IS indeed a requirement. In fact, look at the stable of talkers on WIOD. It is a conservative talk station. Miami is far more balanced than most markets. Liberal voices, such as Neil Rogers, are well represented here.

The station has pretty much become a mouth piece for a particular party. It hasn't lived up to its "heritage" status of recent years, relying on plug-and-play programming.

This Footy move is a welcome change in a cacaphony of monotonous conservative talkers, though, as I said, Beck's conversation rises about pee-wees such as Hannity.

Uhm, if I remember correctly FOOTY was/is tight with the Bush family...so wouldn't that kinda sorta make him a "conservative"?

And whats the big deal on here with language like "a certain white house"? C'mon, it's pretty obvious that WIOD is a conservative station. And they've been trying to position WINZ as the liberal station? (last time I checked did WINZ even get a rating point?)

But dumping Glenn Beck for Footy? I guess that only confirms the whole "we are in radio to make money, not provide good programming" comment from a Clear Channel insider...

WINZ hasn't fallen under a 1.5 in over a year.

You know, they could easily keep a syndicated host and save money rather than hire a local host full time.

Footy is close to Jeb but name a South Florida mover or shaker he isn't close to. I'd say he leans... Populist, which probably isn't a bad thing in a market like Miami. Still. he's savvy enough to know the cume of WIOD and if he deviates far from the "party line" he knows what he's doing. That said, I'm not the biggest Footy fan, but I find it interesting that Clear Channel gets ripped for having too much syndication then it gets ripped for replacing a syndicated show with a local show. What the heck do you people want?

Virus is right...there are additional hard costs involved (talent, producer), but they are gambling that having five more minutes of commercial time to sell (gaining back the network spots they gave to Beck), it'll be a money making opportunity, which some of my Radio-Info Board members often forget, radio IS A BUSINESS. I'm guessing, out of the box, it'll be a big $$$ situation - he's got so many contacts and friendly advertisers. It's almost a no-brainer. The real test is a year from now. Will the show be any good? Will it have ratings? Will the buzz still be there? In the long run, if its not good programming, it won't be making money. Which kind of negates the reasoning of Geeks alleged insider comment.

It doesn't matter if Footy's show is any good. It wont be. He is unlistenable as a host and couldn't interview his way out of a paper sack. Bottom line is he will probably bring in 7-figures in ad revenue because he has so many contacts. If he does that and gets the same sad ratings Beck gets its a win for Clear Channel. Lets face it there hasn't been good programing in this market in 15-years, since Neil was good. I am sure this will be a painful three hours of radio. There's a reason the guy was a sidekick is first 156 years in the biz.

I just found this forum....and now I'm ready to crawl into a ball and bawl! Glenn Beck out and replaced by Footy? It just can't be. So now my two favorite morning shows are gone....Defede and Beck. This is awful.
