You are talking about the days of Infinity Broadcasting CBS is a different animal.kilamanjero said:That is another liability to WPGC because in their days under Jay Stevens and Albie Dee, there was the freedom to play practically anything during the mix which made it a treat to hear. Management will have to lax on the reigns on this station if they want it to thrive because variety is what draws in listeners not the same thing at any given point of the day or week.

Well you see D.C. and Atlanta are two different markets. The management teams are different as well. Iam sure that Rick caffey has a different management style than Sam Rodgers.kilamanjero said:donta1974 said:You are talking about the days of Infinity Broadcasting CBS is a different animal.kilamanjero said:That is another liability to WPGC because in their days under Jay Stevens and Albie Dee, there was the freedom to play practically anything during the mix which made it a treat to hear. That's a non consequitur. You might want to listen to their sister station, V-103, just in the last 3 years started to practically anything they want to during their mixes. V-103 used to be more conservative than WPGC is now with its mixes. The only things that have changed are the people in charge Washington and Atlanta cluster because the Infinity to CBS transition occurred in 2006. It's a local management thing.
The current format is still making too much money for this to happen.Bbabybear02 said:I think DC Doesn't Need Another CHR. I Say that if 95.5 is going to change Formats, It should Try to Compete with WWDC and WIYY and Flip to Hard or Alternative Rock.

Jason Kidd is from the area Annapolis,Md. so he knows what WPGC used to sound like i agree early on he is doing a good job with the music and sound Outstanding. Sadly i agree he probably will not be named PD Sam Rodgers will once again go out of town and pick some clown from another market who may or may not impeed what Jason Kidd is doing at the moment. Jason Kidd should have been named PD last week. Oh he has put gold R AND B back into the "Coolout" which is a surprise to me but again he is doing a good job.Martin Mac said:I am loving the changes to WPGC, not only are they adding more Rhythm-crossover tracks like I've always wanted them too, but they are also adding in more hip-hop throwbacks such as "Black Sheep - The Choice Is Yours", "Geto Boys - Mind Playing Tricks On Me", "Digable Planets - Cool Like That", and other old school hip-hop classics instead of WPGC's usual R&B gold records. This is something I thought WPGC would never do, and I couldn't be happier about this.
Even though it looks like it's not going to happen, I really hope Jason Kidd gets bumped up to PD at WPGC, the changes he has made lately have been great.
Also, WPGC has just put 3 Rhythm-crossover tracks into Power rotation, something I'm also shocked at. Jason Kidd is really making changes over there.
Something interesting I've noticed is that Michael Saunders would usually throw in a crossover tracks around every 2 hours, give or take a few. For example, Bruno Mars, Far East Movement, and other songs not on the Urban charts. However, with Jason Kidd, I've noticed that he has at least 2-3 crossover tracks in the log every single hour that would be familiar to a CHR listener, or someone tuning in who would usually listen to Hot 99.5.
WPGC was actually the number 2 biller in the 2009 stats i know that WKYS was top five. Iam not sure about WMMJ,Prase-FM, and the other FM stations.quietboy said:PGC is sounding better. The throwbacks are keeping my attention. Looks like in the recent PPMs PGC has creeped up front of KYS.
I know that PGC is making money but how does the Clear Channel and Radio One Stations fare in the billing competition here in DC? I assume WTOP is number 1.
If you look at the 12 plus numbers look at WPGC cumes for Feb 944,000 they are way in front of WKYS according to Albie Dee CUME and TSL are the nuts and bolts of PPM. WPGC will remain as is.quietboy said:PGC is sounding better. The throwbacks are keeping my attention. Looks like in the recent PPMs PGC has creeped up front of KYS.

The difference between WPGC and Hot 99.5 is one is an urban that leans rhythmic crossover and the other is CHR/Top 40. The type of listeners that are drawn to a CHR are usually the ones that won't listen for long either, but has a larger target audience which translates into higher cume (which is currently 1 million+ for WIHT). WPGC main audience is still 18-49 blacks while attempting to entice some of Hot audience (mainly white and Latinos in the 18-34 audience) with the crossover hits in the rotation. However, 18-49 blacks tend to be turned off by overspun songs in a short time period. That's why I said WPGC needs to slow down its spins some.
