Format Change Coming To 95.5 PGC?

Andre Carson I could see since KPRS is an urban contemporary (which WPGC is actually an 'urban contemporary' at the core), but Skip Cheatham, LOL! I don't think Skip wouldn't be a good fit for WPGC at all since look at the musical mess K-104 became under his helm as the PD in 1994. That's why K-104 is in the slump its in now. He will have "think outside of the kiddie station box" before he makes a decision at CBS Radio Washington.

I was just throwing some name`s out there" WE HAVE NO IDEA" who the next PD of WPGC will be(It should be Jason Kidd in my opinion). That will be up to Sam. Truthfully i do not think either one of those guy`s would be a good fit but it`s easy for all of us on this message board MYSELF AS WELL to sit at home and play armchair PD. I get a funny feeling that who ever is named PD that you Kilamanjero will not be happy because i think that how you want thier playlist set up is not how the management thier wants it set up. They are on PD number four will be on him or her i doubt that it will be a her and all of these people OVER SPIN SONGS AND DO NOT PLAY A TON OF GOLD R&B in the daytime so i do not think that you will be happy no matter who the PD is(CBS DC is not on the same page as you are). It looks like they do not see the older skewing WMMJ and WHUR as their direct competition they are foucsed on WKYS and 995 look at the playlist.

WPGC isn't even on the same page with half its on-air staff, LOL! Remember what Michel Wright said when she left and she wasn't the only one :D

But seriously, I'm fine with their music overall since it has improved in recent weeks but they need place somebody that knows DC and knows what the listeners wants to hear.

Jason Kidd is from the area(Annapolis, MD.) bringing in an out of town person would not be the answer to a person who knows DC. CBS is about bottom line MONEY(this is the same company that wants Charlie Sheen back as rumor has it) i really think that Sam Rodgers is about who can run the stations budget as opposed to how it sounds from all indication he was very happy with Micheal Saunders so what does the tell all of us.

Wasn't Big Tig the music director before Jason Kidd came. Did he get demoted?
As far as i know Big Tig is still Music Director but that has been the one thing that has stayed the same through out the PD moves. That may/might have been part of the problem with the music i love Tig but as far as i know he was never a MD before. What it must be is that Jason Kidd as Acting PD/APD is taking more control over the playlist than Micheal Saunders did. It would have been nice to have Sarah O`connor back as MD with the APD title and Jason Kidd promoted to PD.

Kidd might just be doing just that, playing what DC wants to hear. Also the # of spins for the power songs has started to trend downward because the top spun song on their playlist is now 85 versus 97-100+ range less than 6 months ago.

WPGC has now added "Katy Perry ft. Kanye West - Futuristic Lover", now that shocked me right there.

That is an interesting add. I just read an article on the changing demographics in major US cities as blacks move out the cities and whites move into the city and how that eventually cities may have one "urban" or and one urban & one urban ac. Do you think that could happen in DC eventually....Radio One the urban powerhouse of DC.

Also, I see the listing is out with the top billing stations. Anybody know where one could see the listing for the Washington, DC area? Curious to where PGC is now?

Could you post the link for that first article?

I feel WPGC might just migrate back to it's "churban" position, were it'll panel as "Rhythmic/CHR", but be pretty much programmed as an "urban contemporary" like sister station WZMX.

CBS Radio is already listing the station as a Rhythmic/CHR in its job openings for the station.

I just went to the CBS Radio corporate site "career opportunities" section and WPGC listed as a "urban" and "Rhythmic/CHR" on the 3 job listings.

Promotions Director is the only one under Urban but its a money thing CHR makes more cash than Urban does

I know there is another WPGC thread but I felt like this was the proper thread.

Well I guess it's official, WPGC is officially a CHR-Urban hybrid.

Katy Perry - E.T. (feat. Kanye West)
Britney Spears - Till The World Ends (feat. Nicki Minaj, Ke$ha)
Chris Brown - Beautiful People (feat. Benny Benassi)
New Boyz - Back Seat (feat. Dev & The Cataracs)
Bruno Mars - Grenade
Enrique Iglesias - Tonight (feat. Ludacris)
Black Eyed Peas - Just Can't Get Enough
Pitbull - Hey Baby (feat. T-Pain)
Rihanna - S&M
Cee-Lo Green - Forget You
Adele - Rolling In The Deep
Far East Movement - Like A G6
Edward Maya - Stereo Love
Chris Brown - Yeah 3x
Bruno Mars - Just The Way You Are

With all these songs being played during mixshows and/or on a regular basis (yes, even Adele and Edward Maya), WPGC really does look like a CHR-Urban hybrid now.

I think it's funny how WPGC now plays more Pop titles than sister station WZMX. I remember when I wanted WPGC to add more crossover titles, and I expected that to happen at some point, but I never thought they would go ALL the way and add straight up Pop titles, becoming more pop than WZMX.

Very much so. You should see the Urban AC titles they spin at night during the CoolOut/KoolOut slow jams show these days. They are a Chrurban during the day and Urban AC at night. It's very interesting assessment of this station's programming. They are going hard for all the stations from Hot to WHUR in the musical programming.

That's what the Rhythmic format is (a cross between CHR and Urban) - PGC is classified as Rhythmic, so IMO nothing surprising here (I guess before now it's been misclassified?)

Not really. WPGC was for years by default programmed like an urban (adding most of the songs that charted on both the Billboard R&B/Hip-Hop and some of the songs Adult R&B panels). That's why they wind up on the urban panel. Since 2010, they've gone back to strictly R&B/Hip-Hop panel with some Hot 100 songs, thus they are back on the rhythmic panel.
