Format Change Coming To 95.5 PGC?

Let's see they are going to be naming a permanent evening host(s), also the host choice will reflect the fact WPGC is going hard for Hot 99.5 target audience. Yeah, that's what coming in the next month. Word is that CBS wants WPGC to be #2 in the market overall by the years' end if their strategy works. Now the $69,000 question is how will WPGC do this while maintaining its black audience...

On mix shows, I personally enjoy a good mix show when the DJs are allowed to be DJs rather than strict followers of the corporate dictate. However, since WPGC went from being what V-103 is now to a station that wants to be known as the "go-to-for anything" station, they have lost their swagger to be that hot mixshow station in the DMV.

Well remember Albie Dee who is white iam thinking white male air talent in the evening host slot at WPGC so Kilamanjero i agree with you about the persuit of Hot 995`s target audience. Iam not sure about number #2 overall but their is no denial that WPGC`s ratings have improved with this tweek in it`s sound.

I feel like everytime I talk about WPGC, they change what I was talking about! LOL, I know I am not the reason why their have been changes, but I like that things I desire for the station to do have happened! This is great! WPGC has definitely improved on adding new music.

They've added three great Rhythmic songs, songs that aren't exactly Urban, but aren't fully pop either. "Sean Paul - Got 2 Luv U f/Alexis Jordan", "Rihanna - Cheers (Drink To That)", and "Kreayshawn - Gucci Gucci". This is great! I also like that their adding these songs before WKYS. These songs are great examples of the type of music WPGC should spin. This is what I've wanted from WPGC! (Of course its not about me, but hey, it doesnt hurt to be happy about it!)

WPGC is making major improvements on song choices but number of rotations is another story. Personally, it's very annoying to hear the same song more than twice within the same daypart. However, WPGC is trying to take on Hot and WKYS at the same time and at their own game. It's a risky but strategic move.

If PGC is Moving rhythmic Power rotation will Increase. Average Urban powers are 80 spins. Average rhythmic power are over 100 Spins

I'm still waiting for that to happen. The Rhythmic move has already happened, as their playing LMFAO, Katy Perry, Adele, and others in regular rotation. They could be going to their "hybrid" status again versus a straight-up Rhythmic.

Iam wondering if they are having trouble finding a night jock its been almost 3 months since its been open its time to fill that slot.

I doubt it. CBS had posted a position for late nights some years back for WVEE but decided to hire within for the spot. The same thing is likely going to occur with WPGC. CBS is one of the few companies nowadays that offers a good salary, full benefits, and creative freedom for most of its urban and "churban" stations full timers. I'm telling you guys Tony Redz, Herkules, or somebody already there will likely be placed for nights.

I agree with kilamajero, most likely it will be Tony Redz or someone already at the station. Donta I dont listen to Tony Redz, what mistakes does he tend to make?

A nighttime jock has been hired and its not from the inside. Should be starting possibly next week or within the next 2 weeks or so. I promised the person who told me I wouldn't say much more. I kind of wish Hercules would have gotten the spot but they must like him doing the slow jam show.

Quietboy took care of what i was about to say so if they have brought in a new voice and it will not be Tony Redz their is nothing for me to say I would have put Herkules in the slot myself before summer started but iam not the PD. However the station needed some new/fresh air talent so iam not mad.

As much as I like Herkules, it is very awkward to listen to him try to be 'smooth' with the slow jams after 10pm. He is better suited for a daytime or evening shift. When Todd B does the shift, it sounds like he "belongs" there. We'll see on whom they picked, but WPGC should be mindful of what WKYS will do in response to this choice not just WIHT/Hot 99.5...

My hats off to you Quietboy you were correct i just found out some info myself about the new person new on the staff and to me in my opinion its a good hire. The person is HOT and different and no surprise to me. Kudos to Jason Kidd.

Random, but do any of you actually live in the WPGC listening area? Or do you all watch this station from afar?

@Martin Mac i live in Baltimore(the station has a large listnership their) i hear the station loud and clear everyday so yes i live in the WPGC signal area.

I'm in Atlanta, but with a number of insider connects since V-103 is considered the "flagship" nowadays for the CBS Radio Urban & Rhythmic division.

Oh okay. Im actually extremely close to the WPGC studios. Ironically, the WKYS studios are a 5-minute drive from the WPGC studios, their pretty much in the same area, and just about on the same road! I believe WPGC and WKYS are moving their locations soon. :(

I seriously need to tone down my love for radio and WPGC. ::)
