FORMAT CHANGE IN CC-MIAMI BUILDING?

R

Was in a client meeting today and was asked what I know about a format change for 93.9?

Possible AC format to go after the billing of WFLC and WLYF?

Think they will go MOVIN?

Ideas anyone?

I'm not so sure about the "MOViN'" part, but if they go the Rhythmic AC route, it might be patterned after WISX/Philadelphia without the Pop/Rock tracks.

Okay, another client meeting today (Monday) and another question about format changes at CC/Miami.

THIS CLIENT was told that 93.9 will become WIOD-FM (as strangelove mentioned) by 10/1 if not before.

NewsTalk Radio WIOD 93.9FM/610 AM

Doc Reno was offered the AM gig on WIOD for the kickoff...but instead he took the PM Drive gig at WBGG again.

I've mentioned this before, but WIOD is supposed to lose its' very good AM TX site soon to developers.

Of course, I wouldn't doubt them to say something like "the Smooth Jazz format will be available online and on HD-2 as a consolation gift", which reminds me, is that why they've been calling it "Love 94 and Love 94-dot-com" on the air, to get listeners ready?

Perhaps, though my guess is they do it because the site is a revenue source and they'd want to promote it as much as possible. If flipping it to a WIOD simulcast is for real (which as I just found out from one of my industry peeps is very likely to happen) then I wonder if they'll be adding more local programming throughout the day.

Doc Reno is back doing middays on Big 105.9, Jen Wylde is back to doing nights and Jay Zeager will be doing weekends.

My girlfriend does sales for BIG and they had a sales staff meeting late yesterday and Doc walked in and joked "this is going to take me away from playing Golf". She said he looked great and the sales staff is completely pumped. She told me on the phone last night "not only did this make my day, it made my year".

Your info is wrong though, he's doing Afternoons 2-7pm starting Thursday. I can't wait. He is without a doubt one of the best personalities on the air in SF. There's something very real and genuine about him when he's on.

What other drastic format changes and "operational efficiencies" will result from the worsening economy? To quote
one of my friends in sales, many clients are "frozen in fear" since news of the financial crisis broke, and ad sales are
even slower than a month ago. Let's hope we've reached the bottom of the curve and the "uptick" is coming soon !

ANOTHER CLIENT MEETING TODAY where I was asked about 93.9's future. And this client claimed to be told WLVE will flip to WIOD-FM also.

And has anyone noticed that 970 WFLA in Tampa (WIOD's sis station), is now announcing itself as an HD2 station on 98ROCK/WXTB?

Also I was told by this client that Footy has been offered the AM drive slot so they can put Glenn Beck back on 9a-12n...but he turned it down b/c he doesn't wanna return to that routine (can't blame him there). But maybe they'll put Glenn back on WIOD-FM at normal time and keep Footy on WIOD-AM. They should do the same with Sean Hannity on FM...and leave Todd Schnitt on AM.

But then again...wishful thinking!!!

And I wouldn't put anything into all this...but it always seems that the NEWS from ClearChannel always gets leaked OUTSIDE the building before anyone INSIDE the building even finds out about it. Remember 94.9...103.5 (two times)...940? ? ? ? ?

I have to agree....Been there myself, at that very same place.

I am willing to believe the WLVE staff is in denial that anything will happen until they face the truth....And am positive CC management has denied everything to their face, as usual.

"Sad but true"....Pun intended, haha.

So, they are going to take a station that gets okay ratings (2nd highest 12+ of the CC stations in Miami), has extremely low overhead (nearly all voice tracked), I assume makes some money and blow it up for a simulcast? Makes no sense.

Oops, Wait. It's Clear Channel. Consider it DONE! :)

So then what happens to 610 in 6 months? I cant imagine they would keep a simulcast for long. That's a stick that could make some $$. Maybe, since the takeover of CC and rumors that they will need to spin off stations, they can divest 940 (for sure) and 610. ??

It's 15th in 25-54 where it counts.

My insider now tells me there might be a change of heart in the matter. Their consultants are pitching them the concept of hiring a full time PD and MD for Love and making the station more workplace oriented. Rumors come, rumors go. We'll see what happens.

My opinion: blow out 94.9 for WIOD-FM, keep the station with strong name recognition and tweak it a bit.

Did anyone notice the LEGAL ID change today for WIOD-AM?

I was listening to Glenn Beck this morning in the office on my HD Radio on 94.9HD2...and the ID was "...now digital at 94.9 HD2 WMGE Miami Beach..."

I went to a meeting and came back and 94.9HD2 was Spanish. I thought maybe my signal had given out again (which happens periodically b/c of bad antenna).

But then while listening to RUSH...I noticed that the ID changed to "...now digital at 93.9 HD2 WLVE Miami..." I heard this at 1pm

Hmmmmmm...the plot thickens!

But why would they want to put the failing and flailing WIOD on an FM signal? So they can get no numbers on the FM dial too? Their big morning show is Jimmy Cephalo? Sort of a letdown. Just more of the same.

Wow, CC actually put English language programming on the HD channel of an English language station. This is worrisome. When they make logical moves that usually spells trouble.
