The BIG problem with our industry is we are SOOOO caught up with "research", "music testing", and consultants, though, I do agree these are all great tools to help assist in the programming of a radio station; but that’s what they are "just tools". Our industry has become so solely dependent on these tools, that we are programming mediocrity! This is really sad because in a mult-media world, radio just can compete. Our industry as a whole is really Not putting out compelling programming. We no longer program to the listener, instead we program to sell advertising. That being said, I do understand a radio station is a business and needs to make money but, letting the product suffer and leaving the listener's needs out of the equation is bringing about the beginning of the end for our industry as we know it.
