Format Flip Speculations...Could This Be The Year Of The Most Flips?

So many rumors, speculations, etc that a few frequencies could flip sometime this year...92.3, 93.1, 94.7, and 107.5 being the talk of the format flip. Would this be the year we see all these frequencies change? If so, who will be the first channel to flip? Currently we just witnessed one of the Westchester signals flip to a simulcast, perhaps one of these frequencies in the city may do the same sooner than we think.

92.3-probably sports
93.1-I would love for Alternative on this station won't happen.
94.7- I really hope for Alternative Rock or Country on this station, it'll probably be ESPN
107.5-I hope again for Alternative Rock or Country on this station, it'll probably ESPN if not then Alternative or Country
Let's hope that Alternative Rock and Country can come back. With 4 stations being in jeopardy of flipping and 2 format holes in the area they HAVE to switch over. There's such few stations targeting males only: Power 105.1 really is and even then they tend to play a lot of pop type music and they don't play good stuff like Mac Miller.

WBLS is off the table. The bankruptcy judge approved the $180 million sale to YMF group this week, there won't be any changes in programming in New York.

93.1 already flipped guys... they just haven't changed the name yet.

Frankly I don't know if they're still planning on it, because they changed their logo, but they're still 93.1 Amor... What?

93.1 has not flipped any more than Lite has flipped. They have just updated to what today's A/C is, after failing to keep up for a few years.

Let's hope 101.9 flips to something other than News. I really hope for a reincarnation of WYNY again. I miss WYNY on 103.5. I hope CC can make 103.5 do something that doesn't interfere with Z100. Z100 is heritage and KTU isn't at all. Granted it was established in 1996, they're not heritage to NYC yet. KTU should go back to straight up dance like the Pulse the pulse was cool because it played Remixes of current rock songs in it too which i thought was cool. KTU should play Strillex and DubStep

Good I was wondering what was going on. Midday host Eygpt just took over middays at WVEE in Atlanta. Im glad Magic's company is buying it.

Aren't you forgetting that the calls are a revival of "Disco 92 KTU"? They ARE technically heratige, as they have been in NY radio, outside of the 10 year break, for about 25 years.

It's a stretch to say that fans of Luis Miguel and Karyn Hernandez are in the same demo of fans who want to hear LMFAO and Pitbull. I can see playing a Spanish language AC artist next to Bachata or some of the poppy sounding Reggaeton but following up a ballad next to "Sexy and I know it"? Amor seems to be testing the waters.

I have to admit that I don't even know who Karyn Hernández is, although I've even had Luis Miguel as a guest in my home.

Hispanic targeted Spanish language AC, whether in the US or in Latin America, has always been targeted at 18-44 or 18-39 and not the traditional 25-54 or 35-54 of English traditional AC stations. This is due, simply, to the much lower average age of the Hispanic community in the US or of the market in general in Latin America.

Luis Miguel has not been relevant for a decade. His songs don't get much play, even on the adult hits / gold based formats like Recuerdo, José and La Preciosa in the markets in the Southwest. Stations that continued to program that kind of material were caught in a time warp, and had failed to keep up with the changes in taste in the core AC demos.

In Latin America, and to a great extent in the US among Spanish dominant Hispanics, music listeners will have much broader tastes and will tend to be more receptive to changes in styles. Couple that with the much younger age targets, and I'd say that there is no difference between having Pitbull as a core artist today and having Los Apson as a core artist in the 60's or Flans, Gloria Trevi and Timbiriche as core artists in the 80's.

More like 35 years... dating back to Donna Summer and Patrick Hernandez in the 70's.

Except for the fact that KTU IS doing really well in the ratings, billing well and DubStep is a niche genre. KTU is now heritage as it's been a Rhythmic Station for many years. Pulse died . Let it go.

KTU isn't going anywhere. 92.3 Now could be on the flip watch, as the station is a distant 3rd to Z-100 & KTU. Perhaps it will be WFAN on 660 AM & 92.3 FM.

IMHO, if 94.7 cannot relocate its stick to a Manhattan location no major operator will be interested in it. With WBLS now spoken for, ESPN is likely stuck on 1050 AM. Pacifica wouldn't give up 99.5 (a full class B) even if someone significantly overpaid for it. :(

From its current New Jersey site, 94.7 may be worth less, but it's very far from worthless. It's still one of the highest population-count signals in the country, ahead of everything but the Manhattan FMs and possibly some of the big Chicago and LA signals.

I don't see any reason why ESPN wouldn't still be interested in the signal, and I doubt they'd be alone.

Unless CBS or the Steinbrenner family buys 94.7, sports is not going to cut it. The price will be too high for the pbp to snatch up by anybody else. ESPN is a straw dog on radio.
