Format Flip @ The Jersey Shore?

This was posted on the front of the Radio-Info page: "Further up the Eastern Seaboard, there’s speculation about a change at the Jersey Shore on Labor Day Monday."

Anyone care to guess what station is flipping formats?

Place yer bets, place yer bets! I'll put my money on Press flipping Hit 106 back to alternative...seeing as how even THEY can't be stupid enough to think that continuing the Bataan Death March to a 0.9 is good business practices.

Let the speculation begin...

I would anticipate an underperforming poorly managed AM station at the shore to be flipped. AM stations in New Jersey are for the most part money drains unless you know what you’re doing. Sit back and laugh friends at this feeble attempt to salvage an AM shore frequency.

Radio is a business, not a hobby

I believe this has something to do with WBGD surrendering their license, and a possible new format coming to 91.9.  But maybe WJRZ came to their senses and realized their bone headed flip was a mistake :D

I wonder how Fun 106.7 (Cape May) is doing. I would believe they're having a difficult time competing with the Oldies leader WIBG.

Could be changes in the Southern Shore?

I really do like the morning show on 97.9 FM Cape May. It's my personal favorite. WIBG has some great stuff going on too.

Fun 106.7 has already scored a higher share in its one book than its predecessors, Q107 & Coast Country, can claim. I listened a bit a few weeks ago - a mix of '60s, '70s, and '80s songs that you would think wouldn't work well together. But I'm thinking it sticks around a little bit, though we can never rule out a third coming of WDOX if it drops off. I'm sure Coastal is tempted - this has to be a rather attractive option with WJSE having switched formats a couple of months ago.

As far as possible format changes go...

Should happen:

WHTG/WBBO: Return of Alternative (as G Rock or FM 106.3)
WJRZ: Classic Hits/Oldies
WCHR: Either Hot Talk or News/Talk, Sports, Active Rock, or Shore Alternative
WMGM: Move WOND to 103.7, and put an Adult Standards/Easy Listening format on 1400/1580

My prediction:

WENJ: Return of NJ 101.5 simulcast (if this happens, an ESPN simulcast on WCHR is possible)

My statement from yesterday appears to be the correct one.

Not only did 1160 am flip but at 9 am this morning the Bob and Marianne began simulcasting on 1310 am and both stations are now known as good time oldies. On air talent will be Lou Russo at 10am
followed by Big Joe Henry at 1 p.m. Tom Lawler from 4-8 p.m. and Christopher Night from 8-Mid.
Both stations still the home of Blue Claws Baseball. They are ad Free (still ads on the web streams).
According to Bob and Marianne the new format will be music from the 50,60, and 70's pre disco.
I guess the fox sports format on 1310 was not preforming well but then again the 1310 signal at night dose not reach too far. With Lou Russo doing Mornings at sister 94.3 I suspect his show and maybe others will be voice tracked. Lets see how they do.

Oh my god I can't believe I'm going to say this but "MedianJ" was right. Wow, now I'm going to vomit a little.

Hopefully the station will sound better when they have the personalties on. I've listened for a bit and I hear instances of two jingles/sweepers being played in a row, jingles/sweepers interrupting songs, dead air, a song fading out early, and even one song being repeated twice in a row.

Other than that, I guess this is an attempt to fill the void left by the WJRZ flip. So far, they have been playing mostly 60's. I would have rather they flipped 105.7, but oh well. They do have a good jock lineup together... would be nice if they were live, but I wouldn't bet on it.

Not so....WMID has beat WIBG in the last two books....

And that's with WMID playing songs at micky mouse speed. ......Josh should stay off the juice and take a correspondence course in statistical analysis.

Well, I have to tip my hat to them. Now that WJRZ dropped Oldies/Classic Hits, this is a perfect time for WOBM-AM to go after a slightly younger demographic itself. I haven't listened much yet but the line-up seeems to hint that much of the day is either live and local - or voiced-tracked but still local. They sound very upbeat on the Internet stream. So let's give them a chance.

Good for WOBM-AM, but they will not surrender 105.7 to flip their classic rock format and let their listeners go to The Rat, Q, or the Shark. Yea, The Rat may get the former G-Rock fans, but they really screwed their oldies fans big time with flipping WJRZ. And let's face it, as long as Hit is billing in sales, they aren't going anywhere, regards of their overall numbers.

And now, statistical analysis, basic analytics lesson #1:

Practically, every AM in the market beats WIBG FM. Even Cape may County licensed WCMC. Generally intelligent people short severe learning disabilities, draw basic practical conclusions from this.

1400/WOND-AM (only 1 Kw on a graveyard channel)
1490/WBSS-AM (double WIBG's ratings with 400 watts on a graveyard channel)
1340/WMID-AM (only 800 watts daytime on a graveyard channel)
1230/WCMC-AM (only 1 Kw on a graveyard channel)

Let me qualify this just a little notch further. WIBG AM/FM combined numbers are now actually less that before 94.3 flipped to WIBG FM and the AM was a stand alone.

Are we learning yet?
