Format for 100.3 in August will be....?

They're going country. I heard this first hand from the only person who had this whole right from the start.

Walker or Beverly?

Just what Knoxville needs is another country station.

Makes sense though given the signal, the people involved, and the fact that it's a stand-alone FM and not part of a cluster. It won't be long before 93.1 and/or 96.7 adjusts.

Hey, I hear Former WOKI Night Jock "Flyin' Brian" is on the beach. His wife went to Farragut. Maybe they can bring him back to help resurrect the HitKicker!

I wish Screamin' Jeff Freeman was still alive. The STL went down one night in Sevierville and he had me laughing so hard I couldn't find the problem. Screw the format. Funny is funny. Think Chuck Edwards would come back from Detroit to work for Ed?

then they should hire that guy that is doing middays on 850 Dub-ya KVL who sounds like he has three packs of Marlboro Reds and three pots of coffee every day so he could talk about Vern Gosdin and Tammy Wynette tunes every four minutes

How long since the Hitkicker was last on the air? How long has Citadel been in the market. Who LMAed the AAA format?

Fiveahead's response:
'The Hitkicker was last on the air in '99. Citadel has been in the market since 2004. "

Actually, I'm 99.999% it was Spring of 1998 when they made the change. I was still in college when The Eagle debuted. I had long since graduated by '99. Also, I think it was more like 2000 when Citadel came in. Wasn't Dick doing the LMA up until 2003 while Citadel was already owning and operating the other stations on Old Kingston Pike???

They're going to change the call letters to WXPO and move their studio into the Sunsphere in honor of the World's Fair.

That boy has been in more markets than Dinty Moore.

But maybe he should sent a resume.

Walker or Beverly?"

Walker, Beverly lies except when he is talking about Golden Retrievers and Horn selling 105.
As for the format, who knows? Easy path would be country, Bob Thomas is back in town and one other long time ago IVK air man. Mornings could be either Claude's Greatest Hits or if the promised to let him do live spots and hawk his books HHH!

Now, one of you insiders come up with a good rumor on who will either take over or start a new oldies station. Oh and remember Oldies today ain't your Mama's Oldies of only the50s and 60s. 80s and 90s are considered in the mix. I know twernt no good tunes after 72 but some folks don't know that!

Now lets hear your thoughts!

That's just what they need. Bob Thomas.

Couple him with CP & Walker in the morning, Bob in the midday, Suitcase Simpson in the PM drive and then top it off with The Brothers swinging until midnight and you would have a complete lineup of "personalities" that not one single listener remembers, or cares about.

Agreed, The Hitkicker doesn't need to be an Old Deejays Home. JP/EB should continue to pound the "OLD vs NEW Country" targeting, focusing young. If a new Journal LMA is not a part of the plan, JP/EB should be finding out if Journal is going to abandon Country, try to acquire Paul Moore, for his programming and production skills. Despite it's low 12+ #s Q93's just a better sounding station, and in the Counties where it can be heard, they are really hurting WIVK. Let Paul call the programming shots, have him staff the station and use Ed Brantley's strong advertising relationships as the way to mobilize the ad revenue from Citadel to Pirkle. Journal actually would stand to benefit with their other properties if JP/EB succeed in catching the Frog.

Remember when Bobby Denton was running things back in the day, he had unlimited marketing resources that allowed WIVK to crush any real threats. Those days are gone, Citadel probably pays many people around the country on the Frog's back. There is no war chest to be able to fend off a well-programmed frontal attack on an equal stick. Even UT Football looks like it's in a very down cycle, the timing for a real assault on WIVK is right, but it will require a massive marketing attack. TV ad rates have never been lower. If he does it right, he may be able to do it. Will JP nut up? Or will his cost cutting instincts lead to a mediocre product that sounds just like WIVK minus the UT Sports?

Great Risk, Great Reward

"JP/EB should be finding out if Journal is going to abandon Country, try to acquire Paul Moore, for his programming and production skills."

I doubt JP or EB will be falling over themselves to pick up a guy who can't get a country station in Knoxville out of the 2 shares.

Dang brother that is so cold!

Truth is we did have a nice run and today most of those you are talking about couldn't really afford the pay cut to go back into radio. Are you jealous, envious or just out of work? Either way, none of us could care less.

Pay cut? C'mon Walker, let's live in reality.
