Format for 100.3 in August will be....?

OK Five I lied, but this Booger just sounded like he hates the elderly and forgets we are the ones who will one day be off our meds and run our SUVs right into the side of his COOPER, guess who walks away from that one!

Radio would have to first be fun again...and I am talking WAY BACK FUN like KGN when it was on Cumberland, THEN it would have to figure out a dang way to start making money...if someone could do that I bet even Booger would like to work in that world. Hey, as for us at one time some of us did get to play in that word and our problem is we still remember it.

1340 WKGN... Hmmm... Do you think George Mooney would come back and buy Citadel? And how many would come out of the stands looking to play again?

All the old timers would come pouring out of the stands, and probably be hired too.

Then in a month, like always, when it didn't work out, some unknown quantity would LMA or buy the station leaving them all unemployed again.

Lots of otherwise surplus AM's available for minimal stick value. Pretty sure there's a bunch of former jock old timers here and at least one old engineer. We could get a couple of old birds to sell it. (Anybody know where Gail Robeson and Carol Satterfield are these days?) We could all chip in a little bit of our social security and trade for groceries. Some of us could bring in our old Citadel stock certificates to save on toilet paper.

Since every one of us knows how to do things right, the jocks could all program their own shows. It would cut down on the arguments. We could call it 'Get off my lawn radio'.

That's not a bad idea. They could put the True Oldies format on it and it would be like they were Top-40 for most of the jocks!

Then, sadly, the money would run out in a month and it would go dark again.

Booger you are are not bringing any sunshine to the table. Brighten up, life is good and radio WAS really fun. If you are too young to remember it, too old to accept it or just too self trained to understand it then ask someone who was there.

Today the cold hard truth that I guess Booger is trying to explain is...the driving force behind radio in "olden" times is now off the box. Yep, they have their own personally programmed "radios" in their pockets and most couldn't tell you what station locally plays what or has WHO on the air.

The next level as in those over 40 but who can still remember to turn on the light and unzip before they water their Lilly are owning cars with that evil satellite radio demon handing them continuous music without clutter on numerous clear, never fading, channels. Sure they all say the same
thing when they get the new family Truckster, I WILL NEVER PAY FOR RADIO..then after that
trial freebie runs out they sign up. Then they only to visit local radio on certain Saturdays in the fall when
the Large Orange is beating Florida.

SO, with the opportunity for a powerful FM station to come out from under an LMA and be run by an
"older fellow" as in JP, who has always made a buck in the industry...is there a chance it just might pull some of those bird listeners or even a few of the pod kids over to the "dark" side?

Hey only Booger knows the answer to that. Personally, I think both hiring Ed for his
market connections AND putting him on the air is a beautiful and very smart move. Because he is an older fellow who Booger says no one remembers could that cause the station to bleed out and go toes up? Guess we will just have to hang out and see?

As for Mr. Mooney, he has moved back to Knoxville..isn't in the best of health but he is still very sharp and I can't see him getting back into the game. Not that I know...but heck the guy was a winner across the board even with San Juan so the question there would be why would he want to even consider getting into an industry that is a shadow of what it was when 1340 ruled Cumberland and was the king in the Tri County Pulse? Booger, your thoughts.

I guess the consensus 100.3 will go back and be a country station. If I were a highly paid (if there is such a thing anymore in radio) @ the Citadel cluster in Knoxsville is it time to start making plans? Or will Citadel put up a fight?

The old days were fun. I had tons of fun in the "old days." Most of which was making fun of those goofy "chorus line" t-shirts WRJZ put out.

I think once the smoke clears we'll have a new country station. And why not? Pirkle knows the product. Brantley knows the product. It's a win-win situation for their team.

And as far as the kids today go, well, we don't have PAB or Russ Skinner to teach them anything and the "old guys" are too busy posting on the internet to actually do anything constructive like help them out.

I would love to stay and chat, but I have to back time so I can hit Mutual at the bottom of the hour.

Hey, I hear Former WOKI Night Jock "Flyin' Brian" is on the beach. His wife went to Farragut. Maybe they can bring him back to help resurrect the HitKicker!

Which Flyin Brian? The first one who burned bridges or the second one who burned bridges?

LORD I would love to have one of those..you know they will bring ones of dollars on e bay now.
IF you were on the air making fun of WRJZ at that time then you had to be on a what station? Can you say...the L word?

Remember when 15Q did an April Fools Day take off on KGN..played jingles and tried to actually tell jokes and be funny? Don't remember? OK do you remember 15Q? Yea I don t either.

Now back to the old school boys of JP and Ed, think they will run out of money and go dark like booger said or actually figure out a way to beat that razor sharp wit of Andy and whatershername?

I've got an old 'yeller one, somewhere. Maybe I'll put it on 'th Bay and see what it brings. It's a medium, which I haven't been since about '78.

JP and Ed won't run out of money.

Word on the street is that JP has given Ed full reign to do what he wishes and without any interference.

I think that the Knoxville market is about to become like Pompeii, regardless of the new format on WNOX.

WNOX Radio 100.3 is looking for employees to debut a new radio station on August 1, 2010. HERE YOU GO KIDS! Jump in there and do your thing.

If you don't mind my asking, what is the origin of this posting? I post radio and TV jobs on my website and would LOVE to include this one! Heck, I may even apply. The last time I was in a good Country radio war was in Charlotte: WSOC vs WTDR. It's in the blood and I miss it!

Just printed my resume, dusted off my Resistol and shined up my Doc Marten's (can't be too careful, the might take the signal rock.)

I think it has to be the Best of the Grand Old Opry during the week and in the fall they will get the rights to replay old UT football games so we can listen to a winning game!
