If you could put a station on the either Cincinnati and Dayton, what format would you put on it and what holes are there that you think would do well?
I actually think the market could sustain a niche formatted Alternative station. The Sound did fairly well for a while until the started messing with the frequencies of The Wolf and The Sound. I get a lot positive feedback on a Modern AC/ Alternative station. A fromat targeted at Males like that would continue hurt both EBN and 96 Rock however it would have to be done right!Upper90 said:I assume there is just not enough market since 97X died but I personally would like to see something like that. NKU comes close with some of their programming and I sorely miss picking up Radio Free Lakota - some of those kids had great tastes in music! With X, UC, Miami, NKU, C State - how can the market possibly not support one modern rock style station?
I like the idea of a "Hot Talk" station like "The Bone" in Tampa, I also like the idea of an all news station, however its can be very costly, with a market the size of Cincinnati could it make it is the question.microbob said:With Cumulus launching a News format station in Atlanta, there are rumors that they may use the crew there to launch other News Stations where they think the format could work. I could see them launching a similar format here on one of their FM's, to take a few points from 700 WLW.
I think if you are going to do a FM talk format it should similar to what Cox just launched in Tampa on its former rock station 102.5 The Bone. They are using the Rock Jocks as talk hosts and it is skewing younger with non political topics than what WLW is in a rut doing. They may be #1 but I can only imagine how old their audience is which is way over 45+
I like the idea of Kiss and WEBN swaping frequencies. Maybe use 100.7 as a WLW repeater as wel

Maybe with a all news format targeted to the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky/Dayton-Springfield metro could work? That's a 3.2+ million population radius which aligns to upcoming plans to combine Cincinnati/Dayton into one MSA. Too bad 105.9 got snagged by Northern Kentucky University - a great FM signal covering a large area of the Tri-State.richstrunck said:I like the idea of a "Hot Talk" station like "The Bone" in Tampa, I also like the idea of an all news station, however its can be very costly, with a market the size of Cincinnati could it make it is the question.microbob said:With Cumulus launching a News format station in Atlanta, there are rumors that they may use the crew there to launch other News Stations where they think the format could work. Ive thought of same possibility. The merger was planned by the Census Bureau in 2013. It will be the nations thirteen Largest MSA in the country. Will be interesting to see how this pans out, how Arbitron handles this I suppose they'll do what they do in Cleveland and Akron, 2 seperate Markets. Like the news idea but yes it would have to target both Markets. Mmmm just wondering if the stations in these Markets will try to move there towers between Both cities, would be almost impossible with FCC regulation.ncincy1 said:Maybe with a all news format targeted to the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky/Dayton-Springfield metro could work?
