First of all, WXRL might be considered a fringe AM station because of its small numbers. But it's also a station that has a very loyal audience. Ramblin' Lou makes money from it. The format will never change from country as long as Lou and his family own it.
Now, to answer your question, in my occasional channel surfing, I think I've heard contemporary Christian on some of the religious stations that have sprung up in recent years. So, I would question whether there would be a real market for that. Even WDCX, with its monster signal, has a minimal audience. I doubt putting such a format on a weak AM signal would attract much.
