Anyone remember WBBO-FM B 98.5 FM? That was a good station.

Now wasn't that where Dallas Kincaid worked at?

I miss WZOU-Boston also.

Now, while this station still exists, I miss WXKS (Kiss 108) during the 1980's; the Sunny Joe White years.

As a bit of a youngin', my choices will be much 'newer'

I too miss DRQ/Detroit. GREAT station. They had some great comeptition from 9-5-5, which ultimately led to their demise. Would have liked to see them continue, but I understand Doug does pretty well. 963 DVD is a pretty aggressive Hot AC and filled the DRQ void with WKQI being so Rhythmic. Not a knock on WKQI either, that station is programmed EXTREMELY well! Their #1 12+ ranking proves that!

WZJM/Jammin 92.3 in Cleveland was our CHR here thru the 90's. I didn't know much about radio then to know if it was a greatly programmed station or not, but it was our CHR with its own unique flavor and I miss them. WAKS filled the void well, however, after Jammin closed shop in '99.

Also miss Z104/Washington DZ! I remember 2 vacations to the Nations Capitol, one in 1997, the other in 1999, and man was that a fun station!! KILLER imaging and jingles galore, also kind of dance leaning from what I remember. And the processing really kicked!!
They didn't stand a chance on that peashooter signal when HOT 99.5 signed on in 2001.

Oddly enough, WIHT is one of my favorite CHRs now.
I've heard some tapes of WAVA Power 105, and I must say, Washington has always had some great Top 40 radio!!

I miss WRTS/Star 104 in Erie, PA and WHOT/Hot 101 in Youngstown, OH. While both are still CHR today, they are nowhere close to the flame-throwin' monster stations they were in the late 90s! Some big talent came thru those stations and it was fun radio to grow up listening to!

The Real Kiss 108 Boston ( Disco-Dance station )
103.3 WHTT Boston
680 WRKO Boson
KIx 106 Providence ( Dance heavy station )
96.5 T-I-C Hartford CT

Rob, it's funny you should have fond memories of Z104 in DC cause they were probably one of the worst CHR's ever! Since they were owned by Bonneville which has close ties to the Mormon church, they played the lamest edits of songs I've ever heard. Remember "Sexual" by Amber...nope...they played "Sensual". They were asking for the competition.

Oh, and let me add one more to the long gone CHR list:

98YCR York, PA...a ton of stiffs nonstop, but a lot of great people came up through there!

Now I know Kiss is basically a generic CC clone now, however the other stations that are still around, are they just an ember of what they once were instead?

I know about them, I just meant the ones still programming. Yes, WTIC-FM evolved into Hot AC, but isn't Hot 106 still more or less the same from before?

Here's a few that come to mind for me;

-WAPW "Power 99" Atlanta
-WHLY "Y106" Orlando (and I also loved their short-lived incarnation as WCAT "Y106 The Cat" as well).
-KLRZ "Pirate Radio Z100" New Orleans (great suburban rimshot CHR in the 90s).
-WTNZ "95-3 TNZ" and later "Power 95" Knoxville, TN.
-WZGC "Hit Radio Z93" Atlanta
-WNFI "I 100" Daytona Beach
-WBPR "Power 98" Myrtle Beach
-KNRV "105 dot 5 The Nerve" Temple-Killeen, TX
-KHTE "106.3 K-Hits" Little Rock
-WBDX "B103" Chattanooga, TN
-KPRF "Power 98.7" Amarillo
-WEGX "Eagle 106" Philadelphia
-WHJX "101-5 Channel X" Jacksonville (short lived, young focused CHR format in the mid 90s that mixed hip hop and alternative).
-WKXJ "Hot Jammin' Kicks FM" Chattanooga, TN (during their rhythmic period in the late 90s)
-KXXX "X100" San Francisco
-WAQQ "95 Double Q" Charlotte
-WBCY "The Great 108 'BCY" Charlotte
-WYHY "Y107, The Outrageous FM" Nashville
-WPYO "95-3 Party" Orlando (sure do miss the old dance format).
-WZAT "Z102" Savannah
-WCPP "Cool Pop 106.7" Harrisburg, PA
-WSEA "Hot 100" Myrtle Beach, SC
-WYOK "Hot 104" Mobile, AL
-KRAD "Radio Next 105.5" Corpus Christi (a mainstream CHR and Spanish hybrid with lots of dance.)
-KBFM "B104" Brownsville-McAllen (Rio Grande Valley), TX
-WZKX "Power 108" Biloxi-Gulfport, MS
-WPHR "Power 108" Cleveland, OH
-WFLZ "Power 93, The Power Pig" Tampa, FL (FLZ has always been good, but Power 93 was way more fun.)

Anyway, that's a few I can think of off the top of my head from various times in the last 20 years or so.

WEGX, Eagle 106, Philadelphia
WZOU, Z-94, Boston
WWGT, G-98 Portland, ME
WTHT, 102.9 Portland, ME
WCKZ, Kiss 102 Charlotte

I grew up on WBBQ/Augusta, Ga. Station used to win Marconis, had monster ratings that ranked it at or near the top of market share across the nation.

Now THAT was a top 40!
