Fox 5 news going HD?

The FOX O&O in Cleveland, WJW, is HD. WNYW, the FOX O&O in NYC, has their news chopper "SkyFox" in HD but nothing else. Odd...

New set went live this morning... the typical HD-ready set (but no HD yet), with lots of frosted glass, rich colored wood and some very neat multi-tone stained fox 5 logos in wood around the set. A big duratrans-style image of Atlanta behind the anchors. Huge video screen off to camera right. Big new weather center, also a new Good Day Atlanta set. New news music package, new graphics, etc.

They probably went with an HD-friendly set so that when WAGA does go HD, they won't have to make set modifications.

BTW...the Fox 5 logos for WAGA, WNYW, and WTTG are exactly the same. I wonder if this is to save $$$.

I think all the Fox O&O's have the same general logo. WBRC does too, basically every "MyFox_____.com" station has that logo. Makes $en$e. Pay a graphics guy and a set design guy one time to design the whole setup, then you just make a few minor changes (number in the logo, picture on the duratran), and you're done.

And this doesn't just apply to network O&Os. Nearly all Media General stations of various network affiliations have converted to a similar logo, graphics package, and set. This includes WJBF in Augusta and WRBL in Columbus. Everything Media General does looks a lot cheaper than the Fox package though.

That's what is called corporate branding. It's not only less costly to make the stations more uniform, it also associates viewers with the ownership.
