FOX 5's Amanda Davis Arrested

HippieGuy said:
Don't get me wrong. I am not defending her. I hate drunk drivers more than a backwood southern judge (whatever that means..just came to me ::)).

I watch WSB news, and it seems that story, or an update, is reported on more than any other drunk-road incident, which ATL seems to have of lately.

I just can't stop believing a lot of it is due to 'competitive righteousness'. Which, IMO, is a bit tacky, taking advantage of a sad situation

Exactly, I don't see anything worthwhile coming out of them shading and throwing up a reference of an unrelated situation like Davis' to wrong-way drivers.

It is hard to conceive that Amanda Davis would come back in her old anchor chair. If she wins her case, I guess WAGA could give her another news slot but it would be difficult seeing them move Lisa Rayam out of her current assignment. It would be jarring to have Amanda - then Lisa - then Amanda co-anchor with Russ Spencer. Plus, Lisa and Russ Spencer seem to have good chemistry.

Poor Amanda Davis, her and my old man just can't say NO to the booze. I remember in 1992 when she got DUI number 1, she came to my high school for a "Ghost Out" event. At first, I thought she was there to cover the story, but when no camera crew was present, and she sat quietly on the bench in the gym while then Smyrna Police Captain Mike Brown (now he's with Johns Creek IIRC) gave a big speech about the consequences of DUI, Ms. Davis just sat there, face down, writing notes- it was obvious something else was afoot.

It would be the next day during our advisement period (before 1st class of the day), where our advisor told us that Ms. Davis was there are part of her court ordered sentence to do community service and had to attend a certain number of such and write some type of victim impact statement. Figures she'd show up at some Cobb county school (Campbell High) to get her hours in.

I hate it that her career is over. I grew up watching her, between her and Morse Diggs (who is still on 5), she WAS channel 5- along with Jim Axel and Ken Cook in my childhood days.

Don't get me wrong, Russ Spencer does a great job, and Lisa is extremely talented (and very easy on the eyes LOL), but these are big shoes to fill. I wish Amanda Davis the best. I hope she can get a grip on her problem.

It is a shame, indeed. Amanda could have just gone to AAA or rehab before letting this escalate to this point, but now she won't have much of a career now.

I read somewhere recently that no court date has been set. She is in limbo right now. That has got to be agonizing.

It is 9:24 PM Thursday and they just did a promo asking us to tune it for a special message from Amanda Davis as they welcome her back. This will be interesting.

So, after all of this time, this is the announcement of her retirement? Oh well. The way I heard the commercial it sounded like they were bringing her back.

I've only been a resident of Georgia for a short time, but I do remember her from my days of watching WAGA from Alabama while visiting family in Anniston back in the day. I feel this an appropriate way to send her off.
