FOX and Conan in the News......................again

Wow Chevy Chase... He really shouldn't be used as an example! His show on Fox was awful, I really like him and wanted to like the show but he had no direction at all. It was painful to watch him, it was that bad!

Conan knows how to do it and Fox is a much different and more successful network than it was back then.

NBC, and the Tonight Show are not like they used to be when NBC was owned by RCA. GE doesn't get it and Universal doesn't either!

There seems to be a lot of re-writing of history on this subject. Conan bombed, historically bombed on NBC...In the landmark show's illustrous record he'll go down in history as the Tonight Show host who failed. Really, honestly, it was a bigger bomb than the Chevy Chase Show. You can't blame the Jay Leno Show on it...people have remote controls now. If they wanted to see him they would. They didn't. Even before he took the Tonight Show, he was bombing. Nuff said. Really, he was terrible, and we won't see him hosting a high profile show again. Believe me, I've tried watching him, and he has 10% of the talent Jimmy Kimmel and Dave Lettermen and Craig Ferguson have. People recognize talent, and the ratings reflected it.

Really???

I am not a Conan fan either, but I beg to differ. Therefore, I have put your post in the 'bookmarks' on my Internet Explorer and will reply to it more in depth as September/October rolls around when Conan starts his new show.... be it on FOX, syndication or wherever. ;)

Heck, who knows... I may have to reply to your post sooner than September/October. Conan and his new employer will definitely make an announcement before then. ;)

On YouTube is an open of the show, and the announcer intros, "And now, he's *still* not ready for prime time... Chevy Chase!" How cryptic!

Most people would beg to differ. Conan didn't "bomb" -- if he did, they wouldn't have offered him 12:05. The network was challenged with trying to figure out a solution to a difficult problem, starting with Leno's ratings at 10 p.m. They opted to put Leno back where he has historically performed well. We all know the rest of the story.

The post you were replying to talks about a "rewriting of history." That is not the case. It's a difference of opinion. Some people really like Conan. I will keep saying what I've said earlier on this board (or at least I think I have). If Conan lands a show at 11 or 11:30 on Fox and is allowed to perform as he did at 12:30 on NBC, we'll see a heated continuation of the Late Night Wars in the fall of 2010.

When you had Letterman reruns beating O'Briens new shows, I would call that bombing. sorry!

True.... BUT... You have to consider that Conan's lead-ins were an extremely weak Jay Leno Show and even weaker late local newscast ratings, in some markets 30% lower than before Leno went to 10pm. Plus you had Letterman involved in sex & extortion scandals at the time... naturally viewers are gonna have that nosy curiosity & turn on Dave and give him a spike in the ratings. I'm not saying none of the blame is Conan's, some parts of his show were awful. Although, I will say NBC "executives" ::) are 100% responsible for what has happened at the peacock since the buck stops with them. They tried to have their cake & eat it too by keeping Conan and Jay. A huge mistake on their part. Comcast needs to clean house when they get the keys to the joint.
