FOX/Disney deal

Another set of implications for the 20th Century Fox/ Disney deal. There were two parks in Dubai and Malaysia that were planning to have a 20th Century Fox Theme park but that was left in lawsuits due to the Disney/20th Century Fox talks.

Now that Disney owns the 20th Century Fox division that's was up in the air though if the 20th Century Fox park will open in 2019.

An Update Cuts are coming to Disney as a result to the 20th Century Fox takeover

The other shoe has dropped: Fox began the process of laying off about 4,000 employees on Thursday, one day after the film and TV studio finalized its multibillion-dollar sale to Disney, a studio executive told TheWrap.

Senior-level staff will likely be the first impacted by the cuts, the executive said. Fox human resources began calling employees at the senior vice president, executive vice president and presidential level to deliver the news on Thursday.

Fox head of distribution Chris Aronson was among the first executives at the studio to get the call, putting out a statement on Thursday announcing that he had been let go.

“I am extremely grateful for my time at [Twentieth Century Fox] under the leadership of Tom, Jim, and Stacey,” Aronson said in the statement. “It has been an honor and a privilege to lead the domestic distribution team, which I consider to be the gold standard in the business. While I am disappointed not to continue, I look forward to starting a new chapter in this business during this exciting time of change.”

The Article seems to Suggest 20th Century Fox Specifically the one that did go to Disney is getting the cuts not the Murdoch managed "Fox Corporation"

The naming situation makes the story confusing, but heritage Fox employees are being cut by Disney. The typical economies of a merger, where duplicate departments are eliminated.

Here is another Article showing that its Disney thats cutting staff members at 20th Century Fox due to the 20th Century Fox/Disney deal.

A second day of layoffs has begun on the Fox lot in the wake of Disney completing its acquisition of 21st Century Fox on Wednesday.

Longtime 20th Century Fox Television Distribution president Mark Kaner is among the senior executives who were formally notified with severance details on Friday morning.

21st Century Fox’s international TV sales arm is among the divisions that has direct overlap with existing operations at Disney, so there is little surprise that Kaner’s group would be affected. Nonetheless, the atmosphere on the Fox lot is extremely somber given the longevity that many executives and their teams have enjoyed. Kaner had headed the division since 1994.

Layoff notices came on Thursday to dozens of staffers on the film side of the 20th Century Fox studio, including numerous executives at the president, executive VP and senior VP level. Large-scale layoffs were anticipated as part of the historic consolidation of two of Hollywood’s biggest and oldest studios. But the reality of it sank in hard on Thursday as executives and lower-level staffers watched the notification process unfold

The Naming confusion is kind of similar to Cumulus using KABC/WABC for the former Disney owned radio stations where Cumulus has a contract with Disney to use the KABC/WABC name for their radio stations. Or its like Entercom using KCBS/WCBS from CBS inc for their radio stations though. Disney has something similar where they can use the 20th Century Fox name from the Murdoch managed Fox Corporation for now and Disney has to pay rent to Fox Corp for the Fox Studios lot in Century City for some time though.

The company doing the buying is the company that controls the staffing. So that puts Disney in control. Part of the reason why a reuniting of Viacom & CBS would be difficult. Lot of overlap has developed over the years, and each company feels it should have the upper hand in determining the future. You can also see it in AT&T's management of the former Time Warner in ways that weren't done under previous management.

So this answers the question of how Disney will run 20th TV. Obviously absorb it into their own TV division ABC Studios.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fox_(channel)

For Outside the USA the Disney Owned Networks will use the Fox Broadcasting Company name to run shows from ABC(Disney's American Outlet), Disney and Fox. I can see like ABC Studios being used inside the USA though but for outside the USA the 20th Century Fox name and Disney Name are more recognizable than ABC Studios though.

I think he's referring to the various Fox TV channels around the world that Disney now owns. They will remain named as Fox.

20th Television appears to be merging into ABC Studios, and apparently will be managed by ABC Studios (since the head of 20th Television was just fired).

But this will be a sticky situation moving forward. Similar to the fact that Warner Brothers Records is its own company, not owned or related to Warner Brothers Studios. Or Universal Music is owned by Vivendi, and is not part of Universal Studios.

Here a case though over the uncertainty of some of the Disney International channels though

Case and point Brazil as of 2019 Disney has ownership of Both ESPN and Fox Sports Net. For now depending on the country Disney is in some of the Sports outlets are going to be named as Fox Sports (Name of Country) and in Other Places its ESPN. In the USA the Murdochs has Fox Sports Name and Disney has ESPN for their sports outlets.

Why not just rebrand it all as ESPN internationally.

Why not just rebrand it all as ESPN internationally.

Part of what they bought was the branding. Ditch that and you're tossing away an asset.

The question I have is do other countries have monopoly laws like ours? If so, Disney may have to sell those channels too.

Not entirely true. Fox has retained ownership of Fox Sports 1 and 2 (because regulators would not have allowed it due to ESPN), but technically, as of this moment, Disney owns all of the regional Fox Sports networks (Fox Sports North, Fox Sports Midwest, etc). This will not be the long term, as Disney is being forced to sell the regional sports networks (again, due to ESPN) but for the next 90 days, networks branded Fox Sports in the US have two different owners.

Here is an Update on Fox Sports Regional in the USA and the debates over who gets to run FOx Sports West though are at play though.

Fox Sports has been part of the media landscape for more than two decades.

But Walt Disney Co.’s $71.3 billion purchase of Fox’s film and television assets, which became official on Wednesday and promises to reshape the country’s media landscape, has set off a series of dominoes that could impact who controls broadcasts of professional teams' games.

As part of the sale, Disney must sell off the Fox Sports stations to satisfy anti-trust concerns, and several ownership groups are in the race to acquire the available assets.

Pistons owner Tom Gores’ California-based private equity firm, Platinum Equity, is part of an investment group bidding for Fox Sports Detroit and the 21 other regional sports networks under the Fox umbrella, according to a Bloomberg report.

Bloomberg reports Platinum, Minnesota Twins owner Jim Pohlad, and media company Liberty Media are spearheading the venture. Fox Business reports the bid could be $10 billion.
