Yes. Univision owns the channel though.

Channel 40 in Raleigh was sold to Univision by Bahakel. Univision likes to own their stations so typically they won't give anyone an affiliation. If WCCB were to be sold, this would be the company... but I don't see it happening.

Mecklenburg County where Charlotte resides is only 6.5% Latino.

I suppose it depends on what kind of money Bahakel could get selling it and/or all the stations, or just running the station but likely relying on informercials and some syndicated programming. I can't see the newscasts surviving, and most of the top syndicated shows (e.g. The Simpsons reruns, Ellen) would move to other stations over time.

Would Fox keep the subchannels (This TV, Antenna TV, The Country Network) from WJZY as Fox usually doesn't carry these? On WMYT, wikipedia lists WMYT carries SonLife Broadcasting Network, another network not carried by Fox stations.

Selling CCB will basically make them end up selling the entire company. I believe a lot will have to transpire between this point and that.

Why is everyone spelling doom for WCCB? They ran as an independent from 1978-1986, granted there was no WAXN,WJZY, or WMYT. But WJZY has done fine as a CW affiliate, I can see WCCB taking the CW and doing okay. Charlotte is large enough to sustain all the stations.

There are a few good reasons why they might not be as successful as an independent (or CW) station today:

1. There is more competition from the many cable networks that weren't available in the early-'80s and the Internet.

2. The CW's business model of reverse compensation and low ratings means depressed ad rates in primetime. WCCB can make more money running second runs of syndicated sitcoms and talk shows. Just look at KUSI vs. XETV in San Diego.

This has been a formality since the sale. And there have been a number of affiliate promos. But they made the official announcement. WJZY will become the new Charlotte Fox affiliate July 1 at 4 am. WCCB will switch to the CW on that date.

WCCB will keep their news department while the WBTV news at 10 on WMYT will move to WJZY July 1 and remain there til WJZY starts their own 10:00 news.

The sale was approved by the FCC in March and consummated in April. Fox has run WJZY as a CW station since then. WCCB announced it was switching to the CW the day after it was consummated.

XETV San Diego and WTVW Evansville are the only ones I can think of and they both used to be Fox affiliates.

WCCT-TV (CW) channel 20 of Waterbury/Hartford is the sister station of Tribune Broadcasting's WTIC-TV (FOX) channel 61 of Hartford. WTIC-TV has had at least a 10 PM newscast since 1989. Channel 20's history with news is quite spotty. They may not have had any since their days as NBC affiliated WATR-TV, before they became independent WTXX-TV in 1982.

XETV San Diego and WTVW Evansville are the only ones I can think of and they both used to be Fox affiliates.

WTVW isn't technically a stand-alone since Nexstar bought ABC-affiliate WEHT and operates "Local 7" through a SSA/JSA/LMA (pick your acronym) with Mission Broadcasting. The news departments, and facilities, of the two station were subsequently merged.

Same can be said for Boston's WLVI (former Tribune) now operated by Sunbeam's WHDH.

I think XETV is likely the only non-Tribune CW affiliate that produces news on it's own.
