FOX PLANNING 90 MIN. SATURDAY NIGHT CARTOON BLOCK FOR 11PM (2013 START)

Seems to put
another nail in the "Don't bother putting anything on Saturday night because nobody is
watching" concept.

Then again, Fox never had any success competing against SNL, following the cancellation of MadTV.

I think they aired burn-offs of "Sit down and Shut up" in this slot. Sounds like just another slot for anything without yellow characters or anything not created by Seth McFarland.

How'd that original programming expansion from CBSA work out?

Exactly.

So Fox would have an hour of the lowest of low budget reality with COPS, then reruns, then some late night experimental stuff. Yeah, nails in the reality, indeed. ::)

There's plenty of cartoons, just in different places. The world is bigger than just three or four networks.

I think it's a good idea. I think they should start (the cartoons) next Saturday night.

SNL is sometimes not so good. Sometimes brilliant. Kind of depends on who's hosting nowadays.

I'll wager a guess and that it will be "Bob's Burgers", "Allan Gregory" and "Napoleon Dynamite" which will take over the Saturday night slot that is IF they're still around by 2013.

Then again I could see the Adult Swim lineup from The Cartoon Network take over. Shows like "China, Illinois" and "Squidbillies" might go over well on FOX.

It's kind of ironic cartoons on sunday night and now late saturday nights but none on saturday mornings.

But this will probably be along the lines of Adult Swim like was mentioned earlier. Definitely not for the kids, although some will probably try to get away with watching it. ::)

The cartoon block is the only thing new coming to Fox's lineup. The amount of network time will not change as Fox has had a 90 minute Saturday late night programming block for years. Currently repeats of Kitchen Nightmares and New Girl run from 11pm-12:30am.

I actually enjoyed Talk Show with Spike Feresten. Some of the bits on that show were so genius, it was a shame that Fox did not look further into his show! I can see Fox running with this concept for a while. Animated comedy seems to be their forte and it'll be interesting to see how something along the lines of this can compete with Adult Swim.

well, "Allan Gregory" is already dead dead dead so you can cross that one off your list. ;)

Here's an idea-- if Fox Late Night hasn't getting the ratings it had since 'Mad TV', why not bring back My Network TV's Saturday night and air the shows there. The only show with anything new is pretty much 'Cops'. Personally, I think MyNet should've picked up 'AMW' as opposed to Lifetime. If Rupert Murdoch still owns MyNet, it could also air some the UFC fights or even bring back 'UFC Wired'...

...and what does Howard Stern have to say about all this? I honestly do not know if I'm being funny or serious! ;D (I mention this because he once had a show on this timeslot with FOX)

How about some sort of Horror Hosted Show? Kind of like Elvira but showing licensed newer films (not public domain oldies like what Elvira showed in her short lived syndicated show) and not the classics like most horror hosts show. Make it a contemporary type of show that is geared towards the younger viewers (18-34).

I wonder if there will be any MA rated shows during this time?

If this is going to be original programming, Fox will probably push the envelope, as they tend to do. Last Sunday's episode of The Family Guy featured a parody of the Teen Choice Awards, in which a young pregnant teen girl was so excited by Justin Beiber (or whoever), that she gave birth on the floor, and swung her baby around by the umbilical cord...like a rodeo star with a lasso rope. Unbelievably and truly tasteless - it even made me cringe - but this is the kind of thing Fox typically allows.

Again - I reference the irony of News Corporation running America's favorite conservative right-wing news network (loved by Evangelicals everywhere), while they run the most censor-able and arguably tasteless programming in the broadcast industry.

There is definitely cognitive dissonance at work here.

Cognitive dissonance is a great way to phrase it- as I find it hilarious that Seth MacFarlane and Sean Hannity work for the same corporate overlords, and "Family Guy" has mocked Fox News Channel on several occassions.

I wonder if that makes the company Christmas party terribly uncomfortable?

As far as the Saturday cartoon block goes, I would assume that there will be some original content and not just repurposed episodes of Sunday cartoons. They make this announcment a year before the block begins to air, which is the typical time it takes to create an animated episode- so I'm guessing we will get more announcements on programming as we approach January 2013.
