Fox Sports 1 and Fox Sports 2

I can't remember the last sports bar I went into that had cable. They all have the dish.

Some of the small places that call themselves sports bars but actually are restaurants with TVs usually have cable. I'd agree all "reputable" ones have satellite.

In places like NYC, most bars/restaurants have cable. With all the tall buildings it is not very practical, or even possible in some cases, to have a satellite dish.

If they want business year-round they have DirecTV. NFL Sunday Ticket is mandatory for a sports bar. The other sports packages are available on Dish and Cable.

Many bars in the west are also signing up for cable or Dish because of the Pac-12 Network, which won't be available on DirecTV in the foreseeable future, if ever.

All the bars in the Philly Metro are have Satellite (DirecTv for the Sunday Ticket) & cable (either Comcast Xfinity or Verizon FiOS) for Comcast SportsNet Philly and The Comcast Network Philly are not on satellite and the bars need cable to show Phillies, Flyers, and Sixers. Verizon does carry both Comcast networks. I was talking to a bar owner who has DirecTv and FiOS. It seems that Verizon may be offering the bar owners a better deal than Comcast.

The closest restaurant to my house, a burger joint, only has Comcast cable on their one set. On that system, at least in downtown Charleston, FS1 is not on in analog.

I noticed that FOX Sports LIVE also airs on the local regional FOX Sports channel besides FOX Sports 1.

So tonight I tuned in to FS2 on channel 1651 on UVerse's HD tier only to find out they're only carrying the SD feed. WTF?

Is Fox Sports 2 already failing or just off to a slow launch? For the past two years FS2/Fuel has carried live UFC preliminary fights. After tonight's fights it was announced that no more preliminary fights would be carried on FS2, all fights will be on FS1 from now on... which translates to 5 hour long fight cards. TV listings and the on screen guide list UFC prelims as being shown on FS2 for the foreseeable future, apparently something has happened tonight to change those plans. Are cable systems not carrying FS2 or is it just an issue of FS2-HD only being available on DirecTV? Or is FS1 just desperate for live programming?

According to Deadspin, ESPN, ESPN2, NFL Network and MLB Network beat FS1 in primetime last week.

I have tried to watch FS1 in the past few days but the on screen graphics are particularly annoying and there's no engaging personalities on the network. This is not a true ESPN competitor.

I don't like how they "jerk" the ticker to the next tab, instead of just letting the tabs slide "naturally".

I was hoping to give Fox Sports Live a try last night at 11pm but the UFC they were running ran past 11pm. Since when is there live UFC on Wed. nights?

Anyway, I have never been a fan of ESPN's Sportscenter. They skip around way too much. Baseball highlights, followed by hockey highlights, then golf, then a 5-minute piece on Tom Brady, then back to baseball. I don't know how anyone can watch that. And the reporting has always seemed stale and boring to me. I'm hoping Fox can offer something different.

I suspect FOX is more concerned by the lack of ratings for "FOX Sports Live" than anything else right now. Their play-by-play in the evenings is limited to UFC and international soccer as far as I've seen.

College football started tonight. Gotta believe the launch date was tied to the beginning of football season. Doesn't do me any good as Fox doesn't carry any SEC or ACC games. Guess that means FS1 will get some west coast ratings but come in dead last here on the better coast.

No one at Fox thought they would come out of the gate with higher ratings than ESPN. I'm not sure they really thought they would beat Speed's ratings right off the bat. Fox does not jump into something like this with a short-term view. This is a long-term investment in trying to build a sports network that will ultimately be a challenger to ESPN. That's the way the Fox broadcast network was built. That's how Fox News Channel was built. It's how this channel is being built. So far I think they have to be fairly pleased with the results. The ratings will come in time.

Or for that matter, nobody took Fox seriously until they got NFL rights years after they started (plus the associated affiliate switches). And even then they didn't reach the top until Idol years after that.

By comparison it took about 4 years for O'Reilly to become the highest-rated cable news show, with the rest of Fox News following shortly after that.

but who will replace the current Fox News (and CNN and MSNBC) viewers after they die? sports channels gets lots of young men, the news channels don't
