Fox Sports Planning To Launch National Channel

ESPNU does serve a purpose, with all the good games it carries.
They appeal to a crowd which ONLY ONE other network (G4 - Not even a sports network unless you consider Ninja Warrior a sporting event) targets - The college crowd

CBS Sports Network used to appeal to this crowd but shed that image when the word "College" from the name

Cheers & 73 ;D

Doesn't G4 target the perp crowd with those "COPS" reruns they show all the time? (Another example of a cable channel departing their original premise...)

G4, unlike the other channels that carry COPS, still has a hold of its roots. They still target the techie crowd (Mainly computer geek & gaming) however CBS could give them some competition here IF they were to launch CNET TV as a diginet as has been talked about elsewhere on here. They also appeal to the adult entertainment crowd & the college crowd with the adult entertainment shows they do & Campus PD, both of which you could say are (At least in some way) part of their core audience

Not only that, but remember - police cars have computers in them & cars in general are computerized nowadays

That's NOT to say that G4 hasn't lost any of its core audience (I'm sure they've lost a few people, especially when it first merged with TechTV) but when all is said & done at the end of the day, it's still a pretty good niche channel (And NBC knows it which is why you see so much advertising from them on there)

That said though, CNBC could produce tech-oriented business briefs for broadcast on G4 just like they do with business briefs on MSNBC. MSNBC could also produce tech-oriented news briefs for broadcast on G4 as well (Both could even use the "News Feed" moniker for these)

JMO.....

Cheers & 73 ;D

Wow, I hope much of this was sarcastic. I hadn't even looked lately, but holy crap has G4 gone downhill. The only show that is remotely tech on there is Attack of the Show, and that doesn't really count. Then, there is X Play, which is a gaming show. The rest of the schedule is COPS, and Not Quite COPS, err I mean Campus PD, and then some show about ninja's.

Speaking as a member of the tech community, that isn't even close to a tech or gaming channel anymore. They'd be better off canceling the last two original shows they have and flipping the network to compete with Spike. (Which seems like what they're trying to do without the rebrand).

Fox already has been caught napping, losing their former Liberty/Cablevision channels to Comcast (all but Sportschannel Florida..which is now Fox Sports Florida, a sort of SunSports2.)

Don't touch SPEED,...unless FOX is looking to walk away from NASCAR..

And for those who don't want another sports channel, I want no more "reality show" channels. I don't give a crap how dangerous your job is or how you're preparing for "doomsday" or how cute your animals are or how you live while your husband is rotting in jail.

No, Fox still owns more than Fox Sports Florida. It only lost FSN New England and Bay Area to Comcast and FSN Pittsburgh, Northwest, Rocky Mountain and Utah to DirecTv.

On a side note, it kind of makes me wonder that if this national Fox Sports Network becomes reality, will they eventually dissolve their partnerships with Comcast, Cablevision (MSG/MSG Plus), and Root Sports, and move its remaining live inventory to the new channel. After all, for the last few years, there's no longer any mention of "FSN" on the live events, mainly in deference to the aforementioned networks (of course, with one of its partners being co-owned by a competitor).

The backbone of the regional Fox Sports networks is local sports, and that won't change. FSN no longer offers any original national programming, outside of live events, so the regional networks are pretty much left to their own devices. Believe someone suggested here (on another board, I forget) that Fox Sports 1 could be used as a "sampler" of sorts, such as NASCAR (from Speed), Big Ten football and basketball, soccer from Fox Soccer, UFC from FX and Big Fox, among other things.
