Fox Talk, Stars and Double T sounding great!

Wow, that's all I can say. It's so refreshing that there's a local owner in Lubbock that cares about delivering to the community. It was great to see an FM talk station with a solid signal and a display that scrolls. What a good time to have Glenn Beck, as local listeners are fired up about politics. Meanwhile, over on Double T, there's great coverage of Texas Tech baseball. Over at Stars, there's Ryan Seacrest during one of American Idol's best season's ever, topped off by John Tesh and then Delilah. Plus up to the minute coverage of news and local weather. Plus, don't forget Magic 93.7 and all awesome threesome of Fox 34, CW 22/4 and MyLubbock TV 14. Ray and Brad Moran have it RIGHT! If people aren't making ad buys on those stations, they are missing out!

I'm not saying the guys across town at GAP don't put out a good product, they do! But I'd be lying if I didn't say that RAMAR is putting together an awesome product right now!

I agree that it's great to see Ramar using the scrolling display, however, I think it would be more effective if they used it on a station that actually needed it. Currently, my RDS readout on 104.3 is "DBLT1043," which looks terrible in my opinion. It would me much more effective to use scrolling on 104.3 than on 100.7, but maybe Ramar has plans on putting scrolling on all their other stations.

Me being a Tech fan, I have enjoyed listening to Double T's coverage on Texas Tech. I also enjoy listening to Tech Talk and The Bottom Line. If someone in Lubbock isn't a Tech fan, they probably won't like Double T too much since it's basically all Texas Tech, all the time!

I'll have to disagree with you on Stars. The problem I have with Stars is the format seems very confusing. I have heard Adam Lambert, Lady Gaga, to random songs from the 80's and 70's. And then, all of a sudden, Delilah will come on and soft rock will be playing over the speakers. It would be nicer to see a more consistent format on this station. At least they finally updated their website...

I can't say much about Magic because I don't listen to it enough, so I won't make any comment on KXTQ-FM.

Speaking of GAP, I think they have a new layout for their websites. Kiss FM, The Bear, and FMX's website looks very different. Kool still has the old layout.

Wow! This station is really syndication heavy. And Seacrest is really stetching to make this lame season of AI sound even interesting.

Do you hear that bubbling sound? That's your credibility going down the toliet. The t.v. stations (especially the latter two) are aweful and the radio stations are horrible. I can see commending them on some features, but taken on the whole, they don't cut the mustard.

Since when does having an opinion hurt one's credibility?

Garrett, on the issue of "Cred"... it's like this If you are an economist and you say.."America's economy is GREAT!
that can be your "Opinion", but if the figures don't add up, you end up sounding like an idiot. they are running PSA'S in drive time, ratings are not there, in short... the figures don't add up for Ramar. but you as well as Ramar can believe anything you want. ::)

I don't know. What numbers you are referring to and don't care. I posted my opinion of what I thought sounded good. Feel free to disagree with me. There are know bad opinions.

Seriously. Let the guy have his opinion. Calling/implying to him that he is an idiot kind of ruins your credibility. Just saying :-\.

I have discussed radio on here with Garrett for quite awhile now. I have enjoyed the discussions and he has brought up valid points before. Like he said, you don't have to agree with him. I didn't agree with him about Stars. But I wasn't rude to him for liking Stars.

anybody can like what they want, but we were talking about credibility...[/i] [/i] i wasn't calling him an "Idiot"- READ the post and "Context" of it in terms of credibility.[/i] about those who think things are GOING GREAT..when they are not..
and it it fits??? well....

Did anyone read that AI was beaten in the ratings by DWTS? Seriously. What does that say about this season of AI when your show is beaten by morons dancing? Maybe Ryan Seacrest's contract with the DEVIL has begun to run out! * Insert evil laugh here and here*

I enjoy reading the post Garrett puts on this board. You can tell he really has a passion for radio and is really inquisitive about all aspects of the game. With that being said, when I come back to Lubbock to see family I think me and Garrett need to have lunch and talk about this thing with Ramar! I would never damn anyone for having an opinion or call them stupid because he hears something I don't and that's fine but Garrett let me point out a couple of things to you from an old radio dog that's seen it all! Ramar is a self indulged radio/TV group. If they say they're great in the halls they believe it regardless of the sales. They have a radio GM who is very much lacking in people skills, radio skills and the knowledge and nohow to motivate and if you ask the "upper" clients in the market they will tell you first hand the reason they won't advertise is because of the way he does business. Next comes the station manager or whatever his title is. He was hired to focus on sales! Did you know this guy does the music on Stars? That's right, you have a sales person with NO programming experience playing with the format, making the adds, rest, clocks and rotations. Come to any TAB event and eventually you'll hear about it in the form of a joke or two at the bar after a long day of seminars! The group has NO program directors. Not one person with the title has any experience. The young lady that runs Double T came from TV and doesn't have a clue! Just listen to any of the live shows and you can tell they are not being worked with. I've listed to the Bottom Line several times and it's a good show but he needs help! During one show I counted him saying "um" 94 times! That's not a typo 94 times! Back to Stars! When I stay with my family that's the station that's on the alarm clock and the girl that does morning is the worst jock in the market. Her show prep is rip and read with no brevity and no idea that half of the stuff she talks about doesn't even relate to the market. I heard her do several breaks that went in excess of 7 minutes of her just talking! Some of the stations have great elements. Double T can be a power house if they get the right people in the right spots. Magic is the daddy of the group and they have some really strong talent but still need some work! The imaging on most of the stations is very very poor and doesn't fit the stations with the expect ion of Magic and people have already talked about Tesh and Delila so I won't even mention that. I just thought I would give you a few proven facts about this group. Like I said, they have a few good elements but man do they need work. They should be sold out on Double T and when you have to run PSA's during Tech Games, something's wrong! It may be due to the fact they can't get good talent with the knowledge needed because they don't pay any money or have anyone to train people in the art of sales because your main sales guy is to busy messing with the music. I have a great friend who worked with them a couple years ago and had a great resume of medium market success and they only paid him 26 thousand a year for mornings and a PD post. I hope I didn't offend you because I think you have the passion that everyone who loves radio needs! Like I said I just wanted to give you some inside info all of which came from people I know that has worked with this group!

Not to argue with any of Walker's points but Ramar does not have any inventory in the games. If you hear a PSA in a game, it's because Learfield didn't sell them.

sounds like walker's issue is the fact that ramar is owned by a guy with more money than him.....
more money*, but RamarDoesn't know how to operate Radio properties Walker hit the nail on the head!!!...
*(how long will it last running these losers ::)
