Somehow this reminds me of NBC's dropping KRON and buying KNTV. KNTV, you may recall, was the ABC affiliate in San Jose; when NBC bought it it had to move the transmitter closer to San Francisco and rebrand itself as a San Francisco station. But it seems to have worked out; nothing tells me that KRON will go back to NBC.
Although I would have preferred one of two scenarios in Seattle: (1) KCPQ becoming a Fox o&o, or (2) KIRO becoming a Fox o&o and KCPQ getting CBS, this may all work out. But it's true that KOMO is probably going to be with ABC until at least 2019, since Sinclair just reupped with practically all of its ABC stations. (Long shot that changes that scenario does not happen in Seattle: Hearst at some point buys ABC, which gets Ch. 12 in Greensboro, Ch. 4 in Greenville, SC, and Ch. 13 in Birmingham, with Sinclair going to NBC in all three markets (Chs. 45, 13, and 68, respectively)...but I'm not holding my breath.)
