bye bye Air America :) Oh by the way: AL FRANKEN IS LEAVING

http://radioequalizer.blogspot.com

Baloney's asleep at the wheel.

I quoted that same entry from http://www.whatamockery.com two weeks ago.

http://ltradio.blogspot.com/2006/11/rumor-franken-leaving-air-america.html

And nothing's changed since then. John Scott from KQKE is the only one who's reported it.

Obviously Baloney's falling off in his stalking of Al Franken.

I don't hate liberal talk radio. I just like making fun of poorly done liberal talk radio.

Yup, I posted about this already too.

Re: Al Franken Leaving Air America

Good, i hope Thom Hartmann replaces him full time.

Franken is a great writer but not much of a talker.

Looks like it was all a rumor. He'll be leaving, but it will be on a USO tour of Iraq (like he's done in the past).

After that, he'll return to AAR.

the funny part is the author gleefully pokes fun of right wing bloggers that ran with the rumor, and then admit he ran with it too!

gotta love it when the lefty blogs step in the same shinola as the righty ones.

Al has already been paid, right? Why not continue to do the show until he decides to run for office? (It's a possibility that at least 14 new listeners might swing the election!)

Couldn't hurt, right?

Wow, what a feeling of deja vu!

I thought this looked familiar, so I looked in the old thread Al Franken Leaving Air America and what do you know? This had all been covered already.

Yet here we have a brand new thread on the exact same topic. I guess that means those of us who couldn't figure out what the thread Al Franken Leaving Air America was about now have this thread as an alternative.

And interestingly enough, it wasn't the guy who works in the gravel pit in Bedrock who started this redundant thread.

Interesting is this thread started before the other one. So this is actually the "old thread". But maybe a mod/admin can merge them together.

Hey wait a minute! I thought it was all about what they stood for and not the almighty dollar. You mean AAR has to make money too?? I guess those coffee mugs, thongs and other things they were selling were important to the bottom live after all. I could be wrong.....

For me, many years ago, it was "one extra pay period to make sure the next check didn't bounce". :D

(It did, by the way. We signed off the entire radio station that day, just ahead of the absentee owner's fax saying the station was going to go off the air.)

Of course, even now, I'm not as wealthy as Mr. Franken. That was my only job...

How long would you continue doing a broadcast job for which you're not being paid?

That depends. If I were someone like Randi Rhodes, I would do it at all. I'd start looking for a new job with a more dependable paycheck ASAP. But, if I had income from other sources, like book royalties, and my broadcasting gig helped me sell more copies of my books and lead to other gigs like speaking on the lecture circuit, I might consider staying on the job for a reduced paycheck.

It all boils down to whether or not the secondary benefits of being on the air were enough to make it worthwhile to keep the radio gig.

One other thing I forgot to mention. Another important factor in deciding whether to keep working on a talk show even if one wasn't getting paid, over and above the publicity factor that might lead to more income from book sales and lecture fees, would be if one had enough money already that one could afford to spend one's time doing something for the pure fun of it, presuming that one that found expressing one's opinions on the radio for a few hours a day was fun.

After giving it some thought, there are Mr. Franken has quite a few career options when his Air America gig comes to an end.

1. He can join Mo Rocca on "Wait, Wait! Don't Tell Me".

2. He can serve as a "celebrity" commentator on shows like "I Love the 80's." (Which was, after all, the "Al Franken Decade".

3. He can be a judge on Iron Chef America.

4. He can revive Hollywood Squares again and sit in one of the boxes.

5. He can push his books on cable TV infomercials.
