Franken's last show on AAR Friday, December 8th.

After giving it some thought, there are Mr. Franken has quite a few career options when his Air America gig comes to an end.

1. He can join Mo Rocca on "Wait, Wait! Don't Tell Me".

2. He can serve as a "celebrity" commentator on shows like "I Love the 80's." (Which was, after all, the "Al Franken Decade".

3. He can be a judge on Iron Chef America.

4. He can revive Hollywood Squares again and sit in one of the boxes.

5. He can push his books on cable TV infomercials.

you forgot

'Dancing with the not-so Stars'

'Surreal Life, # 50 '

and

'Saturday Night Live'

.oh wait, he's already been fired from that one :D

Franken is now out officially here in Akron, where they'll take Ed Schultz in his new live noon-3 slot, and move AAR's Randi Rhodes into afternoon drive, also live.

In the press release about it, WARF/1350 says it's rumored Franken will announce his run for the U.S. Senate in Minnesota "as soon as Tuesday".

Boston's libtalk duo (1200/1430) is dumping Franken for AAR Syndication's Thom Hartmann.

And Chicago's WCPT/850 is moving Franken to a delayed afternoon clearance, essentially swapping him with Schultz's live show. And in the note about it on the WCPT website, the station cites the uncertainty surrounding Franken continuing the show, not to mention the future AAR itself:

Some of you may be wondering why move Al to the later time slot. The truth of the matter is that we are uncertain of Al's future along with Air America's. We will continue to carry his show as long as we can, with the hopes that he will continue on, however we have no indication of Al's future.

If that wasn't the state that elected Jesse Ventura Governor, I'd think Franken's run for the Senate was nothing but a publicity stunt.

Miller would be a better fit, if shes going to be on tape, against Hannity (yawn). Gary Burbank is better than most of the local hosts she could go against if stations didn't want Randi moved up to 3-6pm (which I presume a good number won't), but as to Cincinnati, she could well be the only entertaining non-sports talk show in PMD.

The Hartmann-to-replace-Franken news about WKOX/WXKS Boston area may just be a temp. fix; rumor has it they may drop the format at the end of Dec. (maybe to try and make $ with ethnic brokered time). I would
think maybe they could keep it on one station and use the other for the brokered time...

Well, it would make sense that if AAR knows Franken is hanging it up on the radio, they'd try to slide affiliates over to Hartmann.

And if the station is going out of the format, as you've pointed out and is being rumored by people with pretty decent connections, it'd be the easiest move until such a change.

good point. I concur!

Yes the latest rumor is that it will be dumped at the end of the month; maybe WKOX or WXKS would go to brokered time. Anyone for La Musica Mega, Matthew Lesko informercials, or Brother Stair? As long as
someone's willing to buy time...or maybe someone can buy these 2 AMs and who knows if they think
prog. talk would be a good investment (or...something else...)

Considering Air America is going bankrupt, I don't think you're going to find large numbers of people with enough money to buy a radio station who think that liberal political talk will be a good investment, unless it's for a tax loss. I think the only hope for liberal talk radio on the national level is for some millionaire who wants to promote the liberal political agenda to fund a liberal talk network as his own personal soapbox. Unless liberal talk radio finds a Charles Foster Kane, it's going to be a few individual liberal hosts succeeding on their own personal merits, but nothing approaching a nationally known liberal radio brand name.

Well, isn't that the route being taken by the group LMAing Citadel's WHLD/1270 in Buffalo?

Granted, the financial picture is somewhat different between Buffalo and Boston, even for two lower-rated/powered stations.
