andreajesus said:Yeah but, Tony (and you can tell ME if I'm wrong...), isn't it also partially a function of the level and quality of the music that's out there now as opposed to what was happening even a couple of years ago? Perfect case in point - "Calabria" with Enur featuring Natasja(sp?) -- I heard that last week in a Kosher discount store on Avenue M in Brooklyn - on Z100 no less!! To me, that's a GREAT dance music kind of record (I was dancing thru the aisles!) - so i'm sayin if "Calabria" can get this old gal moving on a weekday morning, well....
No..you're not wrong.
Level and quality of the music does account for something. There's also crap out there as well...yet some of that trickles in somehow. The key word here this time around is exposure. I remember "Calabria" from late last summer and 'KTU did play it. But for those that aren't into rhythmic music, they wouldn't tune in. The fact that Z-100 is trickling in with dance music in the "better late than never" category, the exposure has started to happen. And not just in NYC either!
There's still a lot of material out there that needs to get out there on a wider scale...that way the dance oriented stations can go "deeper" into their sounds and keep that distinction of being "edgy".
TR, please expand on this if I've missed anything.
