Allacces reports that John Von, the night jock/production guy has been let go. It says that both positions have been eliminated! Boy, that was quick. He was there all of, what, 3 or 4 months? Hope he had a month to month lease.

Wow!

I didn't know things were that bad around the Nassau Farm. People jumping ship, people getting shifted around like deck chairs on the Titanic, people being blown out what seems like every few days. Man, it's got to be rough for those still there to even want to get out of bed each day never knowing if their desk has already been listed on Ebay. For those of you still under Nassau employ - my sympathies. There can't be that many of you left anymore... :-\

Sheesh! I wonder if anyone has the full body count?

To Nassau's credit, (okay, I couldn't think of a better word), they've spread the executions - engineers, Sr. VP's, accounting folk and of course programming/production/promotions people. Talked to a bud of mine who has some insight and the sense is there's more coming.

I'll tell you one thing: there's no way in hell I'd accept a job with Nassau without a solid contract - and even then I'd have to put a lot of thought into it.

Your bud was right - three more just got the 'Happy Holidays now get the heel out' notice just yesterday in the Stroudsburg location - people who were there over ten years no less! Here's how we're going to reward your dedication and loyalty - take a hike... Wonder when the broom is going to sweep through the Easton location? Hummm.. and who will it be? Start placing your bets now to save time - but hurry! Things could be happening at this very moment and that will void all wagers... :-\

As far as taking a job with Nassau - even with a contract, how will you collect if they sell out or hide behind a backruptsy? And really, with all that's happening with them at the moment would you really want a job with them? Face it, you'd get more mic time at the drive-thru.

Here's what I'm thinking - the investors are bearing down hard wanting that year-end payment they were promised but all the cash was spent on needless upgrades and re-builds. Now the coffers are empty (insert cricket sfx here) and the top guys are scrambling to scrape some cash together to pay the investors back to quiet them down for awhile. But all this is going on while they are trying to figure out how they are going to keep the over-blown saleries they pulling down. Something has to give - and it isn't going to be them.

The up-side (if there is one) is the people being let go should be okay at least in the short term and now they have the last couple weeks of the year to spend at home with the family during the Holidays. And if you are one of those who were just let go - or will be let go in the next few days - take heart. Your finally FREE. Unemployment isn't such a bad thing for awhile, enjoy it.

Everyone - have a Happy Holiday season no matter what happens. :)

Maybe this means Frank isn't the cash cow Nassau thought it would be in the reading market.
To have such a small staff and already having to make cuts it does send a signal. Wonder when they wave the white flag and surrender.

In retrospect, if Frank isn't getting the listenership it had hoped, I wonder if Nassau would have been better off taking 107.5 mainstream AC. Didn't 107.5 do pretty well the last time religion was dropped as an AC?

There are too many country stations with listenable signals in Berks County to make that a viable format.

I think a mainstream Rock station (not a rock hits/classic rock/Hot AC hybrid like Y-102) would work, but they're not popular with station owners now because of perceived difficulties in getting ad sales with that format.

If they want to flank Y-102 on another side, they should try an adult-leaning CHR that appeals heavily to 21-39 year-old women. They have success with PST in Trenton and Bucks County. Why not try something similar in Berks County? " 107.5, Real music variety."

Just think for a minute what they did. They ELIMINATED the Production Director position. A company or station that eliminates this position is telling advertisers that creating effective commercials with their money ( the advertisers) is not important. If you were a local business would you give your money to a radio station that thinks this position is not vital to helping clients see a ROI? What are they doing now? Having sales people write copy? Or worse, letting the client write it.
As far as an Adult Hits format is concerned, it is more costly a format than AC or Classic Hits so I don't that it would have benefited them. Considering how they've buckled in less than six months with the more cost effective format.
