Fred Griffith Retires

On "Good Company" today on channel 3, Cleveland morning TV staple Fred Griffith announced his retirement from TV.

Many of Fred's former "Morning Exchange"/"Afternnon Exchange" co-horst such as Lee Jordan, Mark Johnson, and Wilma Smith wished Fred well (either in person or via taped message), and there was cake and bubbly had by all.

Between the MX debut in 1972, and being on WKYC in one shape or form since 2000, Griffith has been on Cleveland morning TV for 40 years, and in the TV business in general for 50.

I did catch the show on my DVR system. Pretty good and well-done from WKYC. Surprised to see WEWS allowed their staffers appear on "Good Company," but glad they did.

It was also nice to see Fred's family appear on the show too. The tributes and clips were a nice touch. Fred will be missed as he's been on morning television for years. The Morning Exchange was pretty good too. If that show was still on at 8AM, it would have lasted longer than in did.

Fred is a nice enough guy but should have retired when Morning Exchange went off the air.

And because youre the expert that say's he should have..not..

Maybe now it was time for him..I think, though that he has been around long enough that he should be able to decide for himself..

Ti Yes I believe Fred Griffith should have retired years ago. I also believe Wilma Smith and Dick Goddard should retire as well. I give credit to those that knew when it was their time to step aside. Dick Goddard is basically slipping in and out of dementia on air as we watch. Wilma has been on TV for 30 over years. Are they both that hard up for cash? Let someone younger who needs a job and the money have it. Dorothy Fuldheim who was very good at her job should have retired about 5 years before she did as well.

Every person you mention are holding down just one job..They will retire eventually. Fred has had all kind of younger people around him while at channel 3..Younger (cheaper) people ARE being hired all the time in TV..You will get your wish eventually..Again, Smith, Goddard, etc..will know when its time to go. If Fox 8 "pushes" either of them out, especially Goddard, it would be a public relations nightmare...

I doubt it would be a public relations nightmare if Wilma Smith was pushed out. Wilma comes across as very snooty and snobby. Goddard I will admit is far kinder and actually a decent human being. If Goddard wants to stay on TV he should move to weekends and let AJ move up with Andre in the evening. Why do you think Melissa Mack moved to Boston? She saw no chance to ever move up at FOX 8? She will likely be Andre Bernier's age by the time Goddard decides to step down. I say this half jokingly but it would not surprise me if Andre Bernier retires first before Goddard. That would make Scott Sabol the Chief Meteorologist then LOL.
