I remember when they first repackaged the station with the WXRK calls. It sounded like a pretty good station to me, playing a wide variety of the all encompassing approach to Alternative (a station that would play System Of A Down AND Franz Ferdinand).
I find it hard to believe that the station is now worse than WXRK (NYC), and would like some examples if you have them. After 1996, WXRK (NYC) fluctuated between being a rock station that tried to be all things to all people, to the frat boy station that emphasized nu-metal and played rap acts like Eminem. They were doing fine in '96 from what I could see, so there was no need for all the changes. If they had stayed true to the format's sound without trying to throw in Pink Floyd or Kelly Osbourne while still calling themselves "Alternative", they would still be around today.
