Fresh 102.7 is coming

It sounds alot like WPLJ to me.
The good thing is that they are current based and do not play "old" music.
A lite "current" sound without spinning Donna Summer for the 60 millionth time!

Last Song on "Mix 102.7" Before the Flip

I checked yes.com that the last song on "Mix 102.7" was "Funkytown" by Lipps Inc. At 4:35 PM the station played a stunt on Kool & the Gang's "Fresh" for 35 minutes right up until the format change at 5:00 AM. And there you go!

I like it. Granted, I'm outside the target demo, but so far the playlist seems to be leaning heavily on new AC and AC-friendly cuts, with very little 80s and nothing from the 70s and before. It's not "lighter than lite" but the music is positioned differently from Lite FM, which I feel sometimes goes overboard with the tired old disco cuts. I also like the name Fresh, it's a female-friendly name and well represents the newer music they are playing.

It's kind of like a lighter PLJ but with a lot more new music than Lite FM...perhaps both stations might be hurt a bit by Fresh.

There's no jocks yet but based on speculation on the "other" board, the PD Rick Martini, who has extensive AC experience, is promising that there will be on-air personalities soon.

Fresh = a female Jack?

What Jack is for men Fresh appears to be for women. CBS figures it can make more money with the same spot load by not employing on-air talent.

On my way out of work I punched up 102.7 in the middle of a stopset. No local ads to speak of, just network ads for the most part.

For positioning Fresh is using "A fresh approach to today's soft music". Magic 98.3 in New Jersey brags about being "Continuous Soft Rock" -- then plays stuff like "Straight Up" by Paula Abdul or "Dancing in the Dark" by Bruce Springsteen. NOT "Soft Rock" by any means!

I wouldn't use Magic as an example... it sounds pretty lost. I used to love the station in the '90's, but lately, Lite-fm easily wins out. You can predict what song is coming up next, while on Lite and now Fresh, it's not as bad.

According to Inside Radio today: Gary Berkowitz is consulting the re-imaged WNEW that will wedge in between Clear Channel's "Lite" WLTW and ABC's WPLJ, and target 25-44 women.

Since Gary has his name on it...you can count on it being a major SUCCESS in New York. Gary Berkowitz knows how to go after WLTW better than anyone in New York. Gary is a class act with tons of AC knowledge. Look out New York City Radio. WNEW 102.7 can only get better now.

Let's get in my time machine.

Substitute "Gary Berkowitz" with "Frankie Blue", and "LTW" with "KTU".

Holy jesus.

The Fresh logo is the freakin' Blink logo, with a different font and color scheme. Instead of pink it's blue-green, and it's right-aligned instead of centered.

By god.... you're right. Here's the two logos -

(Just found out they don't allow images to be posted :p )

now it's bothering me. I've seen the Fresh font used before, and I'm gonna kill myself until I recognize it...

It's close to -- but not quite -- Garamond bold italic. Nevertheless, the whole logo owes more than a bit to the Food Network logo. http://www.foodnetwork.com/

I recorded the aircheck today from 4:54am-5:10, you can find my scoped audio at mp3airchecks.com. The entire 16 minutes is http://www.4shared.com/dir/1532582/27122b10/sharing.html

The launch actually happened at 4:58am for what it's worth.

I liked that they used an old WNEW jingle.

It's also interesting today is 1/02/o7, i.e. 102.7

you gotta re edit that clip cant have whole songs in it do you want the riaa to come after you ????

I caught a little bit of Fresh last night. Does anyone know if Brandi is live at the studio like Heather Walters and Mike Perry, or if she's voice-tracked?

Brandi is definitely live.

I hope they have someone to wake her up when it's time to say something. Todays formats should be voice tracked, there isn't enough jock content to require someone live.

How long are they going to pound Lite in their sweepers? The recorded sweepers get more time than the jocks, how sad :'(
