Friday May 27th, Dance Music Day on FB!

Hey everyone!

We are going to declare Friday, May 27th as "Dance Music Day" on Facebook. What that means is simple...on your profile, post as many dance music videos as you can. It doesn't matter WHICH genre, whether a track is old or new. Post as many as possible.

What does that have to do with radio? Simply put, we want to bring as much exposure to the music as possible. We want people to be AWARE that there is a large enough audience that loves dance music in whatever genre possible. As simplistic as this may be we want those in whatever media related industries are out there to take notice and along the way bring about more rhythmic/uptempo music to the forefront (whether on radio, commercials, venues, etc.)

Just post dance music videos on your profile :) This would be a big help for all of us.

Thank you,

TONY SANTIAGO
Coordinator
New York Dance Music Coalition

Yes, I'll join the May 27th thing, BUT, I will be sure to post little to nothing YouTube related for about a week or two before hand so when I do post on the 27th, people wont be like "oh, it's the same ol' same ol' stuff he's been always posting". It took me a while to realize that YouTube and posting things in general does work, but only if done in a certain way. I just make sure that whatever style of promotions, or "spamming" I'm delivering, no one else is doing or saying the exact same things. Oh, and people, make sure to post the GOOD videos! Not a AQUA Barbie Girl 2008 T-Pain remix...etc). Also keep in mind that every song you personally like may not be "good" to the majority, or work effectively towards attracting a new potential dance crowd, and that every song you personally hate may not be "bad" or something that other people wont like. I have every other day to try to target a specific audience with a specific, personally desired sound, so May 27th, I'll be only posting th best quality stuff, regardless of whether or not I necessarily like it.

Hey, if facebook and twitter is effective for the tv media, then I'm sure it can have an effect on radio to a degree... After all, CNN HAD TO resort to reading twitter posts LIVE ON THE AIR during the very early stages of the Osama assassination because twitter and facebook had much more news way before CNN and FOX...etc writers could get their stuff printed up and ready to go.... These days, twitter and facebook play a much larger role in life, the mainstream media, advertising, and getting things recognized than most people even realize. A lot of things in life are now being judged purely based on social networking sites and things of that nature (future employment choices, potential relationships...etc.) With that being said, who knows what people may think when they see a bunch of dance videos all over facebook (or maybe they simply notice that every video they've clicked on that day was dance). After all, people are gullible, and right now is the most convenient time to make people believe that dance has suddenly taken over.

After nearly 10 years of searching with no luck, we suddenly found and killed Osama in some conspicuous town and buried him in the sea - all within a few hours. So, couldn't we also make dance take over and become the "next big thing" in just one day?

OH, AND LASTLY, KEEP IN MIND THAT YOUTUBE (AND VEVO....ETC.) HAVE CERTAIN VIDEOS BLOCKED AND MADE SO YOU CAN ONLY WATCH IT ON YOUTUBE! For YouTube, that's a smart marketing technique, but for those of us who want to post certain videos on other sites, it's not good because it directs people away from your site, sending them to YouTube, where there will be lots of distractions that can potentially make the viewers completely forget about you, your site, or whatever you were promoting. It wouldn't make sense for you to post a bunch of restricted dance videos on your page, only for the FIRST one to say "you MUST watch on YouTube", then BAM! Either your viewer is like "hell with this sh.. I ain't openin no new browser", or they are off facebook and onto YouTube... looking at some dance video that somehow hyperlinks to Wiz Khalifa or Nickelback in the end..

By the way, no one should announce "Dance Music Day, May 27...etc" ON facebook because that would defeat the entire purpose of it. I haven't been to facebook to see if anyone did it yet, but I wouldn't recommend announcing it before doing it. If you want to spread the news, send it via inbox - to OTHER DANCE FANATICS! If you tell everybody something is going to happen, then they expect it to happen, and then it happens, then it all only becomes important for one day and that's it. On the other hand, if it just happens and the majority have no idea why it's happening, they'll just see it as "wow, a lot of people are really into this sound... maybe I should be, too".

Remember folks, the "sea of sameness"... As much as I dislike 'unoriginality', it has its advantages. You want a bunch of people to recognize and jump on something, then make it LOOK like a bunch of people are already into it and the rest will naturally follow (at least to some degree).

Oh, and lastly, try to limit your video postings. Maybe about 6 or 7 posts per hour, and I'm being generous by using such high numbers like 6 to 7. Just 3 to 4 an hour is enough. Don't post like 27 videos all at once then sit back at your desk or office, thinking "man, now everybody's watching and listening and all my friends will now become dance fans! yay".

You know This is a really nice thought,, But chances are only a small fraction of the people on an average friends profile is gonna take the time. I cant even get people to click the links for my stream,, or Perrys Streams.

Okay let me spell out how this is going to go down because, yes, I do understand about people not wanting to be "spammed" per se along with criticisms of this concept, which has never been done before. But the announcement is traveling around FB as we speak.

1. The CAP of videos will be 4 for the day. No more than that. If you want to post just one video that is fine.

2. Post a status comment with it in the order of, for example. "I LOVE DANCE MUSIC!" "Dance music supporter". "Let's celebrate (genre of dance music here), "I like this video" etc. Nothing to do with the coalition, nothing to do with the cause. That way it doesn't come off as spam.

3. We're NOT TRYING TO CONVERT ANYONE into being dance music fans that aren't. This is all about dance music "pride" and showing support for summer. And this is only ONE DAY. We're not doing this every weekend.

4. If this works out, great. And if it doesn't we won't do this again. It's about ANY type/style of dance, no matter how old or new.

No one is obligated to participate in this. This is just a way to bring attention to the music in a positive manner. That's all we're trying to do here....nothing more, nothing less.

I know I know...I seem like a Scrooge or a Hater. I get it all the time. But I'm just being honest. Just pointing out how silly we would look if we really participated with this....idea! I don't like the sound of "Dance Day" or "Show our Dance Pride." The key to fitting in, is to keep pushing with the masses. Continue "blending in" with other formats and dominating mainstream clubs. That's how it was done 20 years ago. Dance was very dominant without being singled out and set up for criticism. It was cleverly marketed with CHR Radio and Clubs. We need to think big time.

And what do you think this is Perry?

You want to call it silly, fine. You don't want to participate, I hear you; you made that point ABUNDANTLY clear on your post. But the bottom line here, IMHO IS pushing to the masses and that's what we're attempting to do with this. I CAPPED this to 4 posts so as it didn't come off TOO much and overbearing. Yet this is a ONE DAY EVENT. I'm not telling people to do this every day.

And if we're going to compare to 20 years ago, there were a LOT more dance stations throughout the country than there is now; so for the music to blend well wasn't an issue then. Things are looking up, and that's great. What is wrong with pushing a little more pride into this? At the very least it makes us all proud to support the music in one way or another.

I don't think I'm committing some sort of major crime here.....

I see people post youtubes all day, and it rarely catches my attention.

Which is why I say when I see other people doing a bunch of the same thing, it makes me not want to do it (or in this case, I see everybody posting a bunch of YouTube videos all day, so I try to avoid doing the same). This is also why I say I will refrain from posting any YouTube videos (not directly related to myself and my established fan base) at least for a week before May 27th. This way when I do post any videos on that day, it wont be like "eh.... why should I watch his videos today? He does that every day anyway..".

Regardless of all that, either way, when people post YouTubes all day, if I decide to do the same, I'll just be blending in with all the other folks who post, and with exception to my hardcore fans (who are already dance music fans), everyone else will be thinking "Well why should I watch HIS video? What makes his more special than everyone elses?".

But that doesn't mean I wont participate. I'll still do it in honor of the entire idea.

HOW I GET BY WITH PROMOTION, OR NONSTOP "SPAM" ONLINE:

Online, I like to support music or promote in unique ways that catch people's attention without them even being aware that they're voluntarily being "targeted by an ad or promo... or 'spam'". I never use the inbox and rarely ever use the tagging features, or anything of that nature. Heck, I don't even post on people's pages. Everything I do on facebook goes in time phases, and the moment people begin to catch on to anything I'm doing or when I begin to notice lack of response from folks, I flip the script and give everything A MEGA SWITCH UP! (Anyone remember the "more music, nonstop jamming" phase, aka "silence is golden - less talk more music" phase? I grew my fan base a lot during that time. THEN, after a while, I had to STOP the nonstop music promotion, drop the slogan, and mix it up with clever/silly talk...etc. before it started getting old). This always keeps people wondering "what's next?".

I have many people who finally write me after months of "secretly investigating" the content on my facebook page then admit that even though they don't say much, they're always coming back to my page to see what I'm going to do next and "accuse me of being funny". However, I never get accused of spamming. What's really funny is that what they all think are just dumb clever jokes is really all just spam in disguise. It almost always leads to something music related in the end.

By the way, if you ever see drama on my page about my sister, other people...etc, here's a little secret: It's most likely fake....  maybe a real life issue that I'm genuinely pissed about, but I'm only posting it as a rant to draw attention to my page for something I'm about to do.. ;D People love drama, people love to laugh. People love suspense and irony, but people don't like spam. I just work accordingly.

By the way, if anyone has any doubts about my "slick, clever ways of spamming" and how it works, check out this message I received TODAY as I was typing the earlier stuff:

Hi,
They used to especially in Nuremberg - my hometown!
dont know if you know anything about the history of Nuremberg anyway we used to have 5 american Army bases around my Area and because of that all the clubs used to play Hip Hop R&B Freestyle and Miami Bass only.

I grew up listening to miami Bass and Freestyle music and in my opinion you play the perfect mix of old school and new dancefloor.

A very good friend of mine is the biggest black music DJ in Bavaria
and always on the look for good Dj´s from the US.

NOW, you may think "oh that dj kdm is such a fool! That is clearly a REply message! That means KDM must have initiated it FIRST! Anybody can start a conversation! dumb a$$" Well, ... ok, ok, but here's the very beginning of the ENTIRE interaction:

Now, this is just ONE example of the type of response I get behind the scenes. Keep in mind that I use facebook much more than YouTube and I just barely started "spamming cleverly" on YouTube. Oh, and here are some links for any of you who believe andilippl might be a fake person because he used the term "booty bass":
