Froggy 94.3 in Dyersburg

I dunno.
I do miss it badly at times, but then I remember all the political stuff and arrogant asses that are sometimes involved, and the "Jones" settles some.
I'd certainly lean toward a part-time shift at a station where I enjoyed the format.
When you're part-time, don't need the money, don't care about full-time aspirations and the political process... you can have a blast!
I did that for a long time on "Solid Gold Sunday" at WRVR.
Then they got me on Froggy 94 full-time, and the rest is history.

Meepster,

You and I know a lot of the same people. You think our paths have crossed somewhere over the years? By the way, I think you're right about Steve Gutery...he got shafted!

That is very possible.

I have been in and out of radio for nearly 30 years. I've worked in some pretty small markets and some fairly good sized-ones. I have worked all over West Tennessee and other areas of the country, and worked with hundreds of folks. Sadly, during some of that time I didn't always have all my faculties about me (if you know what I'm saying) But by about '82-'84, (around the time of "HitRadio Q-102" in Jackson) I got married and at least began to settle some.

Where have you worked? You are probably a lot younger than me, and when we passed the same folks, I just passed them years before you met them. That's probably the case. I go WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY back in this business.

I go way back too. Started at WTRB in Ripley sometime around 1976. WASL/WTRO from 77-84...been in Memphis the last 20 years in sales

That being the case...I'll lay another name on you just for fun...

Don Paris!

How's that for a flashback???

I actually live in Ripley now! My wife is from here and we moved here several years ago.

I moved here while I was at Froggy94!

I was in Memphis radio for a good while.

let me lay another Ripley name on you....Bill Dotson and I were hired within 2 weeks of one another before he moved on to the greener pastures of WMC AM. He's now in Greensboro back doing mornings with Aunt Elouise Louise.

I just heard that Bill was doing his thing somewhere in Arkansas. He and I have never crossed paths.
By the way...Are your initials RB? I think I may have a bead on who you are lbr.

How recent is your info on Bill. I spoke with him last back in January of this year and he was still in Greensboro. I know he spent some time at KISS in Little Rock before moving on to NC. And yes, my initials are RB.....you may have a good bead on me. I still don't have a clue unless your first name starts with an M.

It does not.I don't know you, but I figured you out by asking a question here. Don Paris told me.
He guessed that you were living in a suburb and working in sales in Memphis, I think.
I started in radio in '78 or '79 in Paris, TN., when I was still in highschool. I often wondered if the stations in Paris and Ripley were co-owned at some point (WTPR and WTRB) but as near as I can tell they never were. I believe Paris was on earlier. That is the station where Ralph Emory started lo those many years ago.

SOOOOO.........Don Paris ratted me out. I like Don a lot. He gave me my first job in radio. I think WTRB is the only job that he has ever had.
