From The Ville Voice - Joe Elliott

Update To A Rumor From This Morning
September 8th, 2010 by jake · 1 Comment
According to folks in the know, Joe Elliott is moving to 970 WGTK.

Everyone’s excited for Monday, September 20 from Noon to 3:00 P.M.

Will Joe foam at the mouth like the rest of those folks or will he be a voice of reason that competes with Rush Limbaugh?

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I'd say judging by the promo running every hour that uses the name "Joe" over & over, all signs point to yes.

This is great news! It's about time that Joe returns to radio on a daily basis where he belongs. Thank you WGTK!
(And I just looked at the program schedule on WHAS.com and Sunday 8:30 A.M.-12:00 P.M is listed as "TBA")

Clearchannel Louisville will probably do as they did in Cincy with Mike McConnell and not allow Joe to finish his Sunday morning program this week. McConnell never had a final show on WLW after he accepted a new position with WGN in Chicago. It was like he never existed on WLW, except for the "we wish him well" note. Don't worry Joe, we will follow you, and we are so happy for you.

Hmmm, with Bobby Jack Murphy on WFIA during drive time, and now Elliott, good job Salem!

WGTK, if you are listening, how bout putting Denton Randall on your station too? He had a great following and put on a great show each Sunday afternoon.

Bobby Jack had Joe on this afternoon on WFIA, and Joe verified he is no longer on WHAS. He promises he will do a show similar to what he's done in the past focusing on local issues.

All I can say is:

Its about time!

I hear Salem screens their hosts so I hope he doesn't fall for their crap.

What's worse, dealing with religious crap or corporate CC crap?

I don't think its a win-win situtation either way if he has to be moderated what he's talking about.

I love how the guy hasn't even hit the air yet and most of the replys center around him being censored.

I would have thought that after 20 years of working for WHAS, that Kelly Carls could have issued a press release wishing Joe good luck, or something like that. But on second thought, when I called him voicing my opinion about Joe for the vacated morning position, he was just a rude a$$. He wondered why I was clinging to a part of WHAS history by wanting Joe on the morning show. Maybe we can be lucky, and Carls will one day be history in radio.

I think it's pretty unlikely that any station is going to send out a press release for an on-air talent quitting to go work for a competitor. I've never seen it done before.

Well when Mike McConnell left WLW earlier this year, this was said:

“We’ll miss Mike,” said Clear Channel President Chuck Fredrick in a news release. “We’ve long known that Chicago has represented a ‘dream market’ for Mike -- and we firmly believe everyone has the right to chase their dreams. We wish him all the best.”

Seems Carls could have done the same thing for their departing employee.

However, McConnell quit WLW and left for another market hundreds of miles away. It would be a bit different for a talent who quits and goes to another station across the same town.

The best way for another talk station to compete against Rush is to have a good, local host like Joe Elliott. You probably won't beat Rush, but you'll take some of his numbers away.

Isn't that done in Cincy with Bill Cunningham competing with Rush? I wonder who wins that contest?

I would put money on Bill winning that battle.

Excellent news. The day before my birthday. Good job WGTK. Glad you are hiring local people to host local shows. I'm done with WHAS for good now as Joe E's show was the only thing I listened to any more. Now I can delete a preset on my car radio. I wonder if he will have guests on from time to time. WHAS is a pitiful shadow of a once great station that is now another CC cookie cutter. I'm still waiting for the ball to drop on WLW when CC gets rid of the live local 24-7 news and weather there.

I know we'll find out Monday..... But does anyone know if this will cause a shuffle in the WGTK line-up? Or, will Joe simply replace Dennis Miller? I love listening to Joe, but if I could choose one host to lose from WGTK it wouldn't be Dennis Miller. :)

During AT 40 The 70's on Saturday night, Dennis did a promo saying to listen to him weeknights at 10 P.M.
