Full circle?

Now I do not know a whole lot about the Atlanta market, but I do remember a few things....

Like 99X was Power 99 before they went rock. Atlanta went a very long time without a true Top 40, and Star 94 is the one who came closest to being a Top 40. Now I am not sure if someone esle came along before Q100 did, but from what I can tell, no one has. So now you have the de facto Top 40 station by default going up against a true Top 40, and now the true top 40 is moving to a larger, more powerful stick on 99.7, the old 99X. So I guess it would be true then that 99.7 has come full circle back to being a true top 40 station right?

I doubt Star will become a true Top 40, but their days of being the default top 40 is over.

I agree. With 99.7 having the power it has and the numbers Q100 drew at 12,000 watts, I was just thinking about how crazy the ratings might be on 99.7. Time will tell just how well the true top 40 station does, but I think it's going uphill from here. Good luck to Q100 on 99.7! You earned it!

Z-93 was Top-40 (Steve McCoy), then 94Q (94.1) WQXI, Power99 (99.7), Star94 (94.1) WSTR "sort of", then Q-100 (100.5).

Power 99 was great in it's day and I'm sure Q-100 will keep the track record going!!

Good luck!

And again a number of you seem to forget that when 95.5 The Beat debuted it was a true Top 40.
Q-100 took over that role when it debuted, but is sadly now much more tame, now that it's in the hands of Cumulus. If Star 94 was smart they'd go full on CHR/Pop, with all the hype, bells, and whistles that come along with it. Listen to Z-100 NYC, or to the syndicated Open House Party show on Saturdays - now that's a true bigger then life Top 40 sound. That's what the old Power 99 sounded like in its heyday (late 80s/early 90s). Star already has a hot new morning show in place, now they just need to spice up the music.
95.5 The Beat at least has the right idea with their liners/sweepers - very bigger then life, and heavily promotes Atlanta as a music capital.

Off-topic: Does Z100 New York still have reverb in the airchain? What about Star 94? Always thought that was an "old-school" effect that still sounded cool on Top 40.

Power 99 certainly had reverb. The only time I've noticed reverb on Star is Nudge often sounds like he has reverb on his mike.

sounds like they do, on Sunday nights they have this male Dr. Laura dude show. The reverb always makes him and his callers sound like they are in an empty concert hall...
