Hey come on. Is this radiodiscussions.com or politicsdiscsussions.com? Granted it is hard to leave politics out of discussing a radio station that is all politics, but let's not start throwing stereotypes out. No matter what the other person's beliefs are, let him have his and you have yours.

It would help if the people who own a license to operate a broadcast station assumed (as their pioneers did a couple of generations ago) that what they had is a license to be a "sherpa" and lead their community through the tough parts of the trail.

These "sherpas" - then and now - consistently lead to the right. Who runs radio? The heirs of George F. Babbitt, knee-jerk Republicans from the sales department who now think they've made it. They hang out at the chamber of commerce and the county club with other Republicans and bemoan that the masses don't see THE TRUTH, as they see it so clearly. Now, the Republican Party did have some class back in the day. Democrats were working class, blue collar. Republicans were middle class and upper middle class, managers, professionals, small business owners. But then Tricky Dick made a deal wth the devil and brought Dixiecrats, Wallaceites and Archie Bunkers into the Republican Party. They were supposed to shut up and provide votes, defer to their betters. They did not and that's when things got nasty. The "sherpas" decided to pander to the mob, so they filled talk radio with Rush and his clones and purged radio of progressive hosts.

I know lots of people who listen to right-wing talk, and no one who has burned a cross, chump

Yes, most of them are too lazy to actually get up, go out and attend a cross burning. So, they just sit around the trailer or some row house in a blue collar suburb, drink cheap tasteless beer out of the can, eat flavored chips, listen to right-wing talk and fume. The highest level of articulation they reach is the belch.
